Actually you are the ones putting words in peoples mouth by saying “we are defending ourselves” all the damn time when clearly you’re not. If we want to get into who attacked first narratives - which anyone with a brain can see are pointless, stupid and entirely without merit. 

We talk about how neither side complied with the 2006 ceasefire - Israel continues to violate it by making daily flights over Lebanese airspace, Hezbollah didn't disarm. As the ceasefire was never functional, we have to go back to the start of the Hezbollah-Israel conflict to decide who shot first. 

Hezbollah only exists because of Israel's second attempted invasion of Southern Lebanon and forced installation of a puppet government in Beirut. During the Israeli invasion, the IDF surrounded the Sabra neighbourhood & the Shatila refugee camp and allowed their allies in the Christian militias to commit a massacre of the Palestinian refugees and the Lebanese Shia populations in Sabra & Shatila. Hezbollah formed in the post 85 withdrawal to Southern Lebanon, and was one of many guerilla groups which fought against the Israeli occupation of Southern Lebanon which only ended in 2000. 

Now, to get back to my point of why who attacked first narratives are stupid irrelevant arguments with no helpful role in IR & international security. 
You can argue the 1982 invasion of Lebanon was because of the paramilitary operations of the PLO under Arafat & the assasination of an Israeli ambassador by a rival of the PLO being falsely attributed to the PLO by Israel's leaders. You can then argue the PLO only operated from Southern Lebanon because of the scale of refugees in the area caused by the 1948 establishment of Israel. And from here you can then start discussing the impacts of international policy by the allied nations between the outbreak of WW1 and WW2.
From here do you blame it on the Arab revolt? Do you blame it on Nazi persecution of the European Jewish populations, do you blame that on the allies allowing it out of their own anti-semitism? Do you go further back and blame it on the early Zionist movement activists who as early as the 1920s were moving to this area of the Ottoman Empire (and all the territories it became upon dissolution in 1922)? Do we blame the creation of Zionism in European Jewish circles on the anti-semitism of the European Christian majorities? 

Do you see why a blame game in a conflict setting with history stretching so far back that even our grandparents weren't glints in their parents' eyes? Because any decision on where to stop and place the "they shot first" narrative is nothing more than a political decision. It is not a factual decision, it is an a-historical decontextualised decision. The only purpose of such a playground level of comment is to push a specific side's viewpoint. 
It doesn't achieve peace. It doesn't allow for conflicts to end and for regions & communities to heal. And it has no intention of doing so.

You left out the part where that that bombing was an illegal Israeli settlement on Palestinian land, and this was yet another example of Israel "manufacturing retaliation". Israel used those victims to excuse more domination, just like all the "hostages" they let walk straight into harms way with MONTHS of advance notice within the Israel government of Hamas activity at that exact border.

They bombed the southern suburb of Beirut, widely considered as the 'stronghold' of Hezballah. It was a 'targeted assassination' (mind you, the building is fully destroyed and it's in the heart of a residential area) of a high ranking figure in the party (according to what we know so far at least), but it's not known yet if he was killed by the strike or not.

Nobody here is defending Hezbollah, or think its okay for Hezbollah to bomb civilians.

Try making a thread here about how Hezbollah just killed children, and I dare you to find a comment justifying it.
