The funny part is that Obama was unknown and him winning over Clinton in 2008 was a huge political upset.

Mark Kelly actually makes a lot of sense on paper. He’s likable, he’s an astronaut, he was able to win in Arizona twice, and his wife survived a politically-motivated assassination attempt that received wide-spread attention back in the 2010s. Plus Arizona has a Democrat governor so she could appoint another Dem to fill his seat.

The only downside is that his replacement could be vulnerable in two years so it would be another competitive Senate seat for Dems to worry about in the midterms.
