Because the Democratic Campaign is throwing around dangerous rhetoric so to be safe they are removing it (basically I think they feel sort of responsible for driving someone (potentially) to do this)

I don’t see this changing anything. If you are rational enough to not already be a Trump supporter then you will not vote for him simply out of pity. He got covid in 2020 and many saw him becoming a martyr then too. Conversely, many will see this as a sign things must cool down and Trump/MAGA represents chaos, vitriolic rhetoric, a bucking of social norms and an attempted coup. One lone shooter does not implicate democrats, the party of gun control, even if republicans try to spin it that way.

It might not sway votes out of pity per se but it negatively reflects on the intergrity of the Democratic campaign and that can be pretty poignant for an undecided voter, especially since its being spun as an orchestrated attack.
