RichAssPiss 4,697
Gals, Lana did not invent blue sky as a backdrop. Chill. It's basic white block font. Nothing special. 1

Sure the pose was already shot in the 90s but they could have used something else. Well. To answer your question. There’s about zero crossover of audience. So that’s why lmao gay men think it’s a similar cover but it isn’t like BTD is some iconic album to anyone who isn’t gay or into indie music of any kind (I say that bc back then she was more indie). It’s a standard, front on hard pose with somewhat harsh lighting. And she’s mfing Shania Twain! I think we have some proximity bias

It was kind of a muddled statement but she even admitted that she spoke without really having a full context (as she lives in Switzerland and is Canadian) as to how what she’d say would be taken. And she’s also been pretty vocally supportive of queer people. I took my partner (who’s a super fan) to her show last year and she was talking about gay **** left and right and also had some equality lingo and pride flags going on the screens before the show. I’d more likely place her as a typical Democrat of the “fiscally conservative but I-just-wish-we-could-all-love-one-another” types.

No im saying proximity bias lmao we might think something like BTD is more iconic than it is but to Shania Twain it’s probably not at all hence why I don’t think she copied it lol that’s my point. Also bc beyonce actually does lift from others so it’s a v different scenario; I have so little doubt in my mind that Shania and her team parsed through the archives and of all things decided to copy Lana del Rey when Shania has DECADES of her own career to pull from for a greatest hits cover inspo and her audience has like no crossover with Lana’s. Where’s the reason to “copy”? lol it’s a generic shot in indie-adjacent font. That’s it lol
