I mean yeah its safe to say a lot of people aren’t getting it because the album they’re describing is not the album that exists. Not much else to gleam from that other than they didn’t understand what she was writing about of they didn’t actually listen to it to begin with. 

Perfectly cool to not like it. Music is subjective. But when one goes on listing a whole bunch of false information about the content, that kinda demonstrates a lack of understanding.

Is that not the concept of how art works though? Not everyone is meant to enjoy everything. Doesn’t make it bad if you dislike it. I, and a lot of other Taylor fans, happen to love it and that style of music, and my opinion is no more or less important than yours. Hence, not everyone gets it.

I get it’s annoying to see an artist that you all may (or may not) dislike be absolutely everywhere. But man, it comes off as so bitter. Swifties are having fun. But hey, maybe raining on parades isn’t for me, I just don’t get it!

it's also perfectly fine for people to not be impressed about a 30 year old (still) writing songs about high school and 10-year old feuds with kim kardashian and yet more songs about exes (a topic which she had already bled dry by album #2 or #3 tbh)... it's fine to critique the art, it's fine to be disappointed that she doesn't seem to have that much left to say anymore and the fact there is more than 1 person who feels that way shows it's not just wishful thinking... swifties will survive if people don't kneel before everything taylor does, take a deep breath, it's gonna be ok

true, and the reverse is also true, liking something also doesn't make it good either... that's kind of how subjectivity works. i think it's important to acknowledge that a lot of taylor fans are also likely to like anything she makes, no matter how good or bad, it's easy to not address the elephant in that room but she has really created a cult following around herself.  but also the reverse is true, not everyone gets the things that aren't to be like either. like you said, your opinion isn't more important or less, so it's kind of dismissive and condescending to tell people they "don't get it" if they don't like it, when maybe their reasons for not liking it are equally valid, considered, and fully getting it. you don't need to like something to get it. i understand the concept of death penalty, that doesn't mean i like it. 

like i said, i was a swiftie for years, up until evermore. i'm perfectly allowed to feel like she's turned a bit self-obsessed and narcissistic because her groupies abuse, harass and dox anyone who is crazy enough to criticise her online which leads her to be praised even if she breathes into a cup. i suppose it's great if people want to support an artist who is just obsessed with bleeding them dry of their money by making dozens of editions of vinyls, and being capitalistically apolitical and unwilling to say anything of substance because she cares more about money and streams than anything else... personally i've outgrown that, i guess i just "don't get it" anymore, sorry.

I don't want my bias for her to influence this, since it is obvious to many that she is generally who I would say is my fav, so I am saying this from as third party stance as I can - and a fan of both Taylor and Gaga, but...

It's totally fine and fair to say her music isn't your thing or you find what she has to say in her songs redundant, uninteresting, etc., or that you don't like how she markets albums etc, and I totally get how fans are a deep impression on the artist themselves -- truly, I do get that... but this can be said about any fanbase of any artist. There will always be a portion of that fanbase who will fight against any criticism, who will go on the attack, who will harass and bully. This happens with Swifties, happens with the Beyhive, and happens in Little Monsters. What makes the Swifties different? Is it because their numbers? Because when Gaga was dominating in 2010s, people were saying that about us, because Monsters were doing the exact same thing and it was noticeable because she was on top.

Good question and that was maybe my next point – a lot of taylor's new album (and her fans too, let's be honest) position her as being "underrated", "misunderstood", etc. And I'm sorry but coming from someone who is without any possible doubt the most successful, wealthy, popular and famous entertainer in the entire industry (and possibly, in the entire world), the whole "I'm a victim underdog narrative" just really does not make any sense anymore. It maybe did back during Fearless and the VMAs but she really should be beyond that... Just my personal opinion.

I think fans should be open to criticising their faves. My fave is Beyoncé, that doesn't mean I think she's right to hoard billions with Jay, for example. It's important to not treat our stars like gods, and look at them as they are; flawed humans. Blind adulation isn't doing Taylor Swift any favors, it's just making her completely blind to any potential flaws or shortcomings she may have because she always knows there are millions of people who will follow her no matter what she does...  And therefore she never needs to grow or evolve.

But those who are claiming anyone who doesn't like her new music is either ignorant or "just a hater" because they "don't get it" or "have bias against her" is just not it for me.

As a reminder, this is the same woman who made a documentary where she cried about not being nominated for AOTY at the Grammys for Reputation, after winning twice already.

To maybe give some context, in comparison to her now FOUR AOTY wins, the combined efforts of ALL African-American women in the industry over the past 60 years (including legends like Aretha, Whitney, Donna Summer, Alicia Keys, Diana Ross, Beyoncé, Mariah, Solange, and so many more), have only collectively won THREE times, in more than SIXTY years. That's once less than Taylor Swift, for the combined effort of an entire ethnic group who have arguably contributed as much to music, if not more, than Taylor Swift... So yes, the victim narrative is getting a bit tiring to some at this point because it really feels unearned at this stage in her career.
