"Norway is not an EU member, but the country is part of the European Economic Area (EEA). While a EU directive regulates summer time arrangements, whether it has authority over creating separate time zones is another question.

According to a Commission official, time zones are a matter for countries themselves, so it’s unlikely that the EU will be able to grant the region’s request."

Longer days and what next... more hours at work? The idea in general sounds stupid... All systems are programmed to use 24 hour clock, so how do they think it will work? It won't :billie:

If u read the article the idea is quite the opposite actually. But yeah I agree, dumb idea this would never work

It may work if they were isolated given very northern regions already have extrely long daylight in summer days and extremely short in winter and might not make a huge difference on day to day life when they are awake vs asleep as they already have to live with beinf awake in darkness in winter and being asleep in daylight in summer...

But yeah how would they function with the rest of society?

I also wanna ask why no one is discussing possible long term health effects of this. All life on Earth is programed with a 24 hour clock... how would consistently being awake longer at once and consistently sleeping more at once affect us? We know odd sleeping paterns do affect our health a lot

That's a good point actually. They'd probably be permanently jetlagged.

well, this is interesting 'cause the human biological clock is set for 25 hours rather than 24 hours and the 24 hours are a root of problems. But 26 hours are also 1hour less ideal from 25 and equally unsuitable like 24h.

(Source: But these external clocks don’t exactly match the biological
tickings inside ourselves. Many measurements led to the conclusion that the
internal clock period is actually closer to 25 hours; that is, the biological
clock was thought to drift toward a 25-hour day unless it is set back an hour
each day by exposure to morning light and to external clocks. This situation is
blamed for a long list of sleep problems.  https://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/1999/07/human-biological-clock-set-back-an-hour/ )

I dont get it, isnt that article saying 25h was a past estimate and new findings put the clock at 24h and 11 minutes?

actually, newest research shows (the one linked is rather old) people individually have a time setting, that usually is from 23h to 26h, with the majority around 24h-25h. I support the idea of having a place on Earth where people with 26h biological clock can life according to their clock, though 25h would be better (or adding places with 25h time).

25h times could be converted into 24h time like currencies. Like Georgian calender and older calendars

I think we are in some kind of experiment because why do all the governments of the world come up with these random ideas suddenly? France suddenly wants to seperate boys and girls at schools and limit speed on highways at 70 km/h (43.5miles/hour)
