Love that people are blaming it on DEI and "wokeness".

The ever-evolving dogwhistles of racism. Black people can't win.

Conservative brain rot is crazy. My QAnon aunt (who was at the Stop the Steal rally on 1/6) also blamed the Boeing incidents on DEI…istg these people are beyond help

The ship was able to alert the authorities in time to stop the traffic.

But the update is that there were (only?) 8 people who fell into the water. they found 1 person dead, rescued 1 person in the hospital, and looking for 6 more (probably gone..)

I read a psychology study once that looked into why people have a predisposition towards conspiracy theories and it pretty much said that it gives them a sense of control over their lives that they feel they lack. Not to read your aunt, I'm sure you love her, just as an aside to what you said lol

No, you’re right and I completely agree. Also: no need to be precious abt her lmao. Almost got her a mock sport jersey that said #45 “no fly” on it after I found out she was there

One random tip I remember: when crossing a bridge in your car, have your windows "cracked" or rolled down a little bit. This will help the car fill with water quickly, in the event of a collapse. When the car is full of water, you'll be able to open the door and swim out more easily.

Wouldn't it be better to roll the window down completely, to get out immediately? Or would it create any issues that I can't think of?

I think if you had it down all the way, the force of the water rushing in could hurt you. Don't "quote" me on that though lol

But it's important to have water coming in, so anyone else in the car can open their doors too

Even a crack will stop the water pressure from sealing you into your car making it so much easier to get out

There's not toooo much difference between fighting the flooding water to get out of the window or to open the door

The running theories I've been seeing are

-boat driver might have been black (so they had to have been hired bc of DEI)

-the mayor is black (elected bc woke)

-whoever is in charge of checking infrastructure might be black (DEI hire)

No knowledge. Just assumptions and hate. I'm so tired.

I love that they think the DEI argument somehow elevates their point beyond the blunt racism of, “Black people are dumb, unqualified for every job, and are lazy/irresponsible.” ****ing disgusting.

Yeah, I browsed twitter a bit and all the little "AMERICA FIRST🦅🇺🇲" freaks are out in full force with at least a dozen different conspiracy theories

Conservatives will be the downfall of humanity, I have no doubt in my mind about that

So opening the window fully would be a good idea right?

bionic

It looked like a collapse from one of those mobile bridge building games. I didn't realise how fragile the integrity of bridges was– I assumed that the infrastructure would give a bit of room for disasters like this before complete collapse. What a horrific tragedy
