I find it unfair to want to get all of Internet's content for free, for websites/creators that need it to run or have a profit, especially if you're not willing to pay for a premium alternative when there is one. I absolutely don't mind having ads if it means I get to enjoy everything for free, and can spare costs on all these services that offer premium versions.

Well...I feel like a Karen sometimes. If I'm streaming something on 4od (British TV streaming service online)....if you switch tabs during the adverts, the ad pauses. So my petty ass goes to the effort of reducing the size of the tab to 1% and layering it over the article I'm reading so the ad keeps playing :messga:

But yes, I agree. There is no fkn rest from it.

I approve of that behavior :ladyhaha:

I get it bestie! Just out of curiosity do you have any data on the ad click through rate or anything like that? It just intrigues me how ads are actually a viable way of securing an income as me personally, I avoid them like the plague and refuse to click on them even if they're promising the elixir of life for 99p itself

Um I actually don't know but @FATCAT is a techie, he might be able to give you some answers

I do know that for every one member that uses adblockers there's several dozen to several hundred guests that don't. It's why ads were actually previously removed for registered members...until an Invision update reset that setting...or whatever happened :traumatica:

But yeah, I'm pretty sure between guests and members there's plenty of ad revenue to keep the site online which is why there's never been a push to ban adblockers here. I'm just not sure of the exact payout.

I'm so tired of these tech companies. They keep forcing more and more ads. Youtube has become unwatchable because of it.

Things were not that bas a few yearso ago and they were still doing fine but somehow they always need to make more profits

And Firefox reigns supreme once again :vegas:

Too much of the internet is unusable due to how intrusive ads are and Google putting ads above their users in their list of priorities is going to be the death of Chrome, if it isn't already. Switch to Mozilla, Chrome is slowing down your PC anyway!

CHOMP.

Have you also gotten the ads where it says "skip ad in 5...4...3...2...1..." then instead of allowing you to skip, it plays the next ad which is a 15 second unskippable ad?

For some reason, being lied to on the first one makes me so much angrier than if they had just given me a straight up 30 second unskippable ad :rip:

I wasn't going to reveal my secret because I don't want it getting out and then they remove the ability to use it... I have adblocker but still allow ads on YouTube to support my favourite creator right? BUT I have a 'no ads over 5 seconds' policy. If I have to wait more than 5 seconds I just click the little 'i' in the corner, click block ad, and it immediately skips all the ads. It takes 3 seconds instead of waiting any longer. And you never get the same ad again

Now keep that to yourselves y'all hear :nails:  I'm being generous letting the word out

Time to switch browsers :vegas: The most mainstream browser is always the suckiest, and Chrome has been the most heavily used browser for a few years now. I've heard some rly good things about Opera for Windows users, time to check that out or maybe going back to Firefox.

That's a good point. I'd agree with you if corprate companies didn't use ads as a cheap way to give them money. I don't mind ad breaks during a TV show, seeing them on a Youtube sponsor or hearing them on the radio. Companies have to get the word out somehow. However, such as Youtube and Spotify show ads every 2 songs/minutes in order to get you to buy what they're selling.

Not only that, ads are not all they seem. Ads are an easy way for trojans and misinformation to get through to others. It's also a HUGE privacy breach. You'd be surprise how much data people are selling without consent. And I'm not trying to fear-monger.

Not saying you can't pay premium for things. I'm just saying adblocks are there for more than just getting things for free.

Edit: if you use an adblock, you can always whitelist trustworthy sites as well.
