Especially since the small surge in 2020. And that large cities have crime rates that are a fraction of rural areas. Yet according to polls, ~70% of Americans are under the impression that crime rates have gone up and that places like New York, Chicago, Detroit, or Los Angeles are lawless. A byproduct of both propaganda and the fact that we’ve had the privilege of living through a period of 3 decades where crime rates have been steadily dropping, so now people’s threshold for what they consider to be “rampant crime” or a huge surge in crime is largely ahistorical. "The crime trend nationally is incredibly positive - unless you own a Kia or a Hyundai" I wonder why car thefts have gone up.
