MessyTop 14,304
Is Justin Timberlake the pop star anyone wants? A new kind of masculinity is dominating music — leaving little room for yesterday’s pop idol. https://www.vox.com/culture/24099908/justin-timberlake-everything-i-thought-it-was-britney-scandal-forgiveness

Anderson123 35,593
I might give this a listen. I only liked a couple of songs from Man of the Woods but there were some good tracks on 20/20 Experience and FutureSex/LoveSounds. Edit: I see Danja, Calvin Harris, Timbaland, Cirkut on the credits. There's gotta be something good in there. Edited March 15 by Anderson123

Bi Rain 130
I just checked it out and tbh I don't like it very much compared to his older albums. The Good Sis Viola | Have Some Bi Rain | The Bi Rain Train |
bowlsofbrett 379
The use of the F word in some of the songs comes across as try-hard. I never liked JT even back when he was huge everywhere. Some of the songs are nice, but they suffer having his name attached. Haha

Wolf Boy 3,131
Fair, the album is very mid. A few good songs but overall rather dull.

Pretty sure it was 20/20 Experience part 2 that came out just as the culture shifted. Tbh his music sounds the same as it ever did to me, it’s just the energy around it that changed. Totally agree - I gave it a listen and it sounds on par with his other Timbaland produced releases. But you're right, the culture has shifted massively while it seems JT hasn't grown much as a person or artist. StrawberryBlond 14,014
He definitely reverted to his old sound after realising his foray into country didn't work out. But now this old style seems stale and like he hasn't refined it in all this time. Big lack of hit material as well. The only songs I liked were F**kin' Up The Disco, Technicolor and Sanctified and on an 18 track album, that's terrible. The album sounds like knock offs of his older songs or attempts at appealing to the current music scene. Most of the songs were too long and really outstayed their welcome with no reason for them to be that length other than it's one of Justin's trademarks. It really sounds like he just wants a hit and it's very calculated but not paying off. I know the negativity surrounding him must have influenced the perception of it somewhat but it was odd enough to see critics not here for him last time, to see it twice in a row is jarring. Justin used to be one of the biggest and most respected names in the industry. What happened to him? Thing is, Justin can't go back into the studio and immediately start cooking up something new to be released as a recovery from a flop. He takes years between releases, much more than the average popstar, he's said he's a big believer in not rushing a masterpiece. Most popstars would've been quick to act after a flop like Man Of The Woods but I knew Justin wouldn't be in that mindset to just switch on creativity when push came to shove. He stubbornly refuses to change even when his career's on the line. Even if Britney hadn't confessed what she did, it would be still roughly the same outcome. He only has himself to blame.
