I’ll admit that I’m not a huge Ariana fan. I’m not very well-versed in her albums. I guess (for me) it feels sonically more mature if that makes sense. I should’ve clarified. As someone who has really only listened to her singles I’m not sure how this album stacks up sonically to her other records, but in terms of what I’ve heard from her in the past, sonically, it feels more adult. Correct me if I’m wrong though.

No need to correct you :kara:!

I've been listening to her since her debut Yours Truly, and this album definitely feels more mature as far as her tone of voice and and delivery, but could have been b-sides to any of her early albums tbh. Those were more upbeat than this but the lyrical content and perspective hasn't changed much over a decade, thats all I meant.

Its similar to Taylor Swift, like sure she has used bigger words and expanded her vocabulary :huntyga:, but the perspective in her songs is largely the same over her career and has not changed much. It's just frustrating as I see both these woman as talented, but they have not shown growth or taken risks with their music, imo. Perhaps they are restricted by the label, who knows.

But I guess Gaga has spoiled us because at 23yo she was writing:

I want your ugly, I want your disease
I want your everything as long as it's free

The title track "eternal sunshine" reminds me so much of

Just very safe album for Ariana imo.

I liked the album a lot, but it does feel a bit bland, as very similar to her previous work (which isn't bad but yeah). I did think that there would be another upbeat song or two similar to Yes, and?

So after my third listen my stand out tracks are:

Gave We Can’t Be Friends a second chance because it seems to be the next single and it sounded so much better in my car speakers

Yeah, I think The Boy Is Mine would’ve went #1 for weeks as the lead. My single choices:

1. The Boy Is Mine

2. Yes, And?

3. We Can’t Be Friends

Well, it’s better than Positions. :triggered:

I’m so ready for Ari to move beyond this lo-fi, trap beat, soft-spoken vocals era of hers. I miss when her songs had big choruses where she would just wail. (One Last Time, Dangerous Woman, God Is A Woman, No Tears Left to Cry)

Everyone saying The Boy is Mine should be a single, I think it will be the third single. The song is basically Ariana saying let me give you something similar to fantasize but better. Supernatural also has single potential. I’d like to see more singles/videos from her and other pop girls. Let’s go back to 4-5 singles per cycle instead of the 2 and if you’re lucky 3.

She has such a beautiful voice. I just can't get into the songs lyrically or thematically at all. But I'll still listen to it because she sounds great anyway.

Not very impressed by the album but I like yes, and?, we can't be friends and the boy is mine.
I love the way they slow down the tempo before the choruses in the boy is mine.
