Yet again, we run into the brick wall of a useless congress.

A congress filled with people who are pressured to have unfettered loyalty to their party leader, and a congress who are so corrupt my money in politics that they couldn’t imagine losing their jobs.

Congresspeople shouldn’t fear losing their jobs when casting an objective vote like this, but it’s practically true. 

And losing their jobs means going from millions to nothing, when really, this job shouldn’t be paying that much, or has as much connections to the private sector as it does.

Corruption all around.

This is such a bad moment for America.

Republicans do not live in the same country/reality as Americans. 

This “just show them the light” doesn’t really work in an isolated society where Fox News and X can be your only source of news.

It’s just… so sad. Completely echo @Morphine Prince from above. 

Laws matter. Beating tyrants at the ballot box should not be the only tool against fascism.

Correct decision.  There's a reason why it was unanimous. Judges cannot unilaterally find someone guilty of "insurrection" without due process.

The 14th Amendment does not require a conviction. 

And this decision was basically “Congress needs to do it, not states”

the attempt to block him from ballots should have never even happened in the first place because it gave him a boost and underdog narrative. Everyone knew it would be overturned anyways so why do it? they just fueled his base even more and activated them....so annoying.

Ultimately it was Republicans pushing for this, some because they're never Trumpers who wanted an alternative to be put in his place & some because they knew it would be blamed on Democrats no matter how it turned out.

The sad part is that based on the plain text of the constitution, he should be barred from office, but our system is so broken we can't even get the supreme court to follow it. Leaving it up to Congress to enforce basically makes it null and void as long as one party has 40 senators that will go along with anything.

In the ruling, SCOTUS didn’t dispute Colorado’s findings that Trump aided or participated in an insurrection while an officer of the United States, and they didn't dispute that the President is included under the 14A Section 3. So that's a good sign despite everything. They just said that states can not enforce 14A Sec 3 for federal elections, but only for state-level elections.

Note that this was a unanimous vote, so keep that in mind that even people who were nominated with a democrat backing agreed that this is a congress decision. I think that is interesting.

Trump owns almost everyone in DC. SCOTUS doesn't care if he destroys our country as long as he's "happy". People are scared of him and noone wants to get on his bad side. Being president does not put you above the law.....unless you're Trump. Let someone else do even half the things that he's done.....they would be crucified.

Section 3 was a dead clause of the Amendment by the time you get as far as Section 5. 

It's pointless having a system to prevent extremists taking power if you make it so the only way to stop them is by the system marking it's own homework. Works great on singular individuals like Victor L. Berger, but vs an entire party? Impossible to achieve.

It can be easy to feel down, but WE THE PEOPLE get the final say on Trump in November. This corrupt-as-hell court can coddle him as much as they want, but we can correct their wrongs with VOTES later this year
