This is more than double any of Gaga’s previous movie budgets!!!!! And more than double the budget of the first movie (65 million)

“The budget for Todd Phillips’ musical “Joker” sequel — one of De Luca and Abdy’s first green lights — has ballooned to about $200 million, a significant bump from the $60 million cost of the first film. Sources say Joaquin Phoenix is getting $20 million to reprise his role as the clown prince of crime, while Lady Gaga is taking home about $12 million to play Harley Quinn. “Joker” took in more than $1 billion, but musicals are tricky. ”

That is a crazy budget, geez... More than double of the first film. Budgets like that are usually reserved for CGI blockbusters :rip:

That is a MASSIVE budget :enigma:

Is marketing included in that? If so I get it (and that says there will be a Gaga blitz this Fall :ororomunroe:)

Also Gaga is one of the highest paid actresses in Hollywood now :vegas: I think Margot got 15M for Barbie and that was a lot :firega:

Is there some reason my LG7 isn't here? Has she died or something?

REALITY

That is insanely huge, especially for how low the first movie cost. I imagine getting Gaga wasn't cheap, but even then, that kind of budget rivals a lot of MCU movies. It makes me wonder if the set pieces are gonna be huge or if they built huge sound stages of the musical sequences or something.

Potential spoiler ahead(?)

Spoiler

There were set photos and videos of Arkham exploding and on fire. If they have huge sequences like that, plus any other musical sequences where they have to build stages—like the one in my profile pic—I could see the budget ballooning to that amount.

the original news was that Gaga received 10 M $
good for her if she renegotiated or got additional millions for possible original music/song

Those typically are done on a budget if they are practical effects. But it's possible there are other effects we haven't seen yet though. Or maybe it is marketing after all?

I read that she got 50 million because she also co-produced the movie (at least that’s what I read online)

Just looked it up and apparently she was paid 12.5M upfront (highest paid actress of 2022) but I'm pretty sure she negotiated to get a percentage of the revenues for her involvement + producing the film. Still, getting 15M for acting is HUGE

Invest the money in a visual album Gaga I beg you

I believe marketing budgets are usually separate from the film budget. So they'll spend well over $200 million if you include the marketing in this.

I can't imagine that this film will have a ton of VFX work, so I don't think that's the reason for the budget. I guess unless the musical sequences have a lot of VFX. I still think the increased budget reflects the talent involved + the practical effects. Otherwise, Idk why else the budget would be so high
