Grammy-winning songwriter calls out Beyonce, Zendaya for taking publishing rights

In a recent Instagram Live, famed songwriter Tiffany Red expressed her frustration toward mainstream artists, accusing them of not sufficiently paying songwriters. Tiffany Red has already been uber-vocal about her advocacy for the fair compensation of songwriters. 

Her latest conversation surrounding the topic at hand stemmed from rapper Jay-Z calling out The Recording Academy’s failure to grant his wife,Beyoncé, an ‘Album of the Year’ award.

Tiffany Red said: “So, let me get this straight, Jay-Z expects Beyoncé to win ‘Album of the Year’ when all the songwriters that contributed to these albums are not compensated and she takes an obscene amount of publishing from all of them?”

Red also mentioned singers Zendaya, Tamar Braxton, and Sevyn Streeter–all of whom she’s written songs for.

Stating that she has associates who didn’t get the proper credit while working with Beyonce, she went on: 
“The reason why people who work for Beyoncé don’t talk is because they’re all on NDAs. Because that’s also how she works, she silences people so that nobody could speak. I’m not a writer that’s written for Beyoncé. I haven’t shot my shot at Beyoncé because I’m not willing to give her any publishing. Not because I haven’t had the opportunity, I’ve had the opportunity to work with everybody. And I’ve turned down a lot of stuff because I’m not willing to play these games! There’s a massive power dynamic happening.”
“Please don’t act like it’s easy to negotiate with Beyoncé and her team! Because it is not. If that was the case, there would not be so many people coming to me like, ‘Tiff, this is how much was taken.’ Sh*t is not negotiable! It’s not!”

Also the bit where she said that Beyoncé never winning AOTY could be due to her business practices made me wonder if the Grammy committee know this and are more aware than we think.

those people who vote are songwriters, producers, engineers, instrumentalists... and they tend to vote for artists who write their own music and don't have multiple people credited on their tracks.

Switching a few words and taking publishing is thievery I'm sorry.

Its funny cuz people call Jlo a thief and all but iv never heard anyone call he out for not cutting a cheque. Even ashanti comments that jlos cheques are quite nice.

Also anyone wonder how  sia is the butt of the "beysment" joke when it should be the other way around.?

We've literally seen how she has songs written and how she contributes. She's talking about the big scary NDA's but there are multiple interviews of people who have helped her and her team speak openly about the process. Anytime a project starts dropping, new people come out to spill tea.

But more power to her for speaking *her* truth. I wish her luck in her career.

The fact that jayz was whinning about her not winning AOTY at the grammys was wild. the academy is definitely going to favour Adele, taylor and anyone who writes their music above beyonce in that category and he knows this cuz he is part of it. he's a music exec at this point and knows how things really work.
