Chesescake 3,762
Beyonce's singing voice is the only thing that's not fully country on these songs. There's a lot of tastes of Pop and Soul in her, but I don't really consider that to be the reason why these two can't be categorized as Country. They’ve very obviously RnB/Pop songs with a lot of country flair to them lol People claiming these songs are country are probably the same people thinking PI is a rock song and MR is a country song too side note: yes, black people invented the Country genre, but unfortunately white people stole the genre and gaslit the entire world into thinking Country music is White Culture. However, Beyoncé is not a country artist and does not release country songs. She 100% could if she wanted to tho, but she hasn’t yet.

Like I said, the only thing that does not give full Country is her singing style. And that shouldn't be a problem since people are always fusing and trying new combination of genres (bodacious or not.) Plus, Country Soul is a thing so let's go with that.

They aren’t country songs. They are rhythmically and vocally set up like Pop/rnb. There is also no vocal twang. The majority of instruments on the track are not country specific instruments. There is a use of some instrumentation that allows both songs to have a country vibe. But having a country vibe, doesn’t make the song country. Thats like saying that “Hair” or “ The Queen” by Gaga are rock songs, when they are just pop songs with a tinge of 80s rock.
GagaisHotAF 419
Guys. Also take into account that country radio has a problem with women artists in general. Carrie Underwood has a hard time getting played on radio without a male partner. https://countrytown.com/news/does-us-country-radio-have-a-woman-problem/umMArK-u0dA/03-01-24# Solo women accounted for 5.57% of all songs on country radio last year. 5.75% of all songs were male/female duets. 88.5% of all songs on the country radio charts last year were male only. Probably on Grindr
HIM820 1,770
While most of radio is just one or two companies at this point, country radio operates a little differently than the average pop station. They strictly look at the labels to see what they should be playing and wait to hear from them. Sony in Nashville never said the song was being serviced to radio, possibly because even they didn’t know about it. But some radio stations did reach out to them asking if they should be playing the song. Of course they is going to be sexism and racism involved here. But to an extent it looks like some stations were waiting for official directions. Edited February 14, 2024 by HIM820

I'm from Texas, grew up listening to country music with my family. this is country music. there's five instruments on Texas Hold Em: banjo, viola, drum, bass, & keyboard. Those are all used in country music. The banjo is at the forefront of the song. So i'd love for you to break down what "majority of the instruments" you're referring to when that's a ridiculous criteria to qualify it as a country song in the first place. mmmy name ~isn't~ aliceee

And she’s doing circles around her number wise. So why you talking?
FrederickSpears 2,066
It's so obvious that radio station didn't know Beyonce was doing a country album. It wasn't racist. Anyway, the song is trash. And it is NOT country music. At all. I've grown up in the south around country music, this ain't it.
