When Beyonce sang Daddy Lessons at the CMAs she got a lot of hate for it. 16 minutes ago, JohnnyVersace said: I mean yeah but you can't deny the racist undertone. The country fans came at her hard back in 2016 for the CMT performance, and it was very clearly thinly-veiled racism. Country fans have a problem with black artists in their genre. Oh. Sad. I wasn't aware of that. I just took this for face value and assumed that the station was not aware of the songs just released being country songs since the request was just to play the new Beyonce songs (I imagine most country listenres aren't listening to Beyonce enough to know that her new material would likely be songs they'd be into) or the radio station wasn't sent songs from her label to begin with. The chords, arrangements and vocal production on both songs are clearly country to me. Spotify and Apple Music for example don't have them categorized the same as Country genre. Spotify has them categorized as Pop and R&B, while AM lists them as Country. At the end of the day we all know this means squat because the quality and production is what makes it that genre in the end but we also know that radio stations and even award shows like The Grammys have a tendency to box certain artists into what they say they belong in. I suspect most country stations don't consider Beyonce to ever be a Country simply because of her skin color--yes I went there because even though black people invented Country music (all started with the banjo) there are many that refuse to accept that much with Rock n Roll and even House music. We may argue it's country music, but that doesn't mean many others will recognize that. Edited February 13, 2024 by Mister G
Kayi 1,402
Black ppl created Blues, the genre at the origin of almost all popular musical genres today...And they also created Country... When ppl thinks that Country is the music of white Americans they are totally wrong. I'm here to take a break from university homeworks :/

RAMROD 105,476
Country listeners don't like Yoncé. When shenperforms at CMA, she got a lot of backlash. Country music medias and listeners called her "police hating woman" because of her Formation song & MV, among other things. What would it be then? Just streaming and sales? that would officially grant streaming control over the hot 100. NCgaga 4,314
The two songs aren’t real country music. They are pop/Rnb with a taste of country. Thats why the song prob wouldn’t get played on country music. its like playing Justin Bieber on urban hip hop station. 1
