Same. I think Rosamund Pike would’ve been a better choice.

100% agree.

Hot take: I actually think none of the Barbie cast should have been nominated. Those roles are just too flat for my liking.

Gotta respect Ryan Reynolds sabotaging his chance at winning the Oscar by coming out and criticizing the academy not nominating Margot & Greta.

The Oscars, like most award shows, are always ruined by people's insistence to see their favorite mainstream box office hits represented, even when there are far better choices :lolly:

Margot and Greta should be and are credited for their impact on the public but no one can tell me they deserved to be up there with the other nominees lol.

Because everyone expected her to be nominated and some even bet on her winning. All the early predictions for 2025 put gaga at the top and we know what happened last time that was the case

Gaga’s joined a sequel where it’s predecessor won its lead actor an Oscar though; she’s also one of the biggest pop stars to ever live, & her role happens to be somewhat musical which plays to her strengths as an actress (her acting nomination for ASIB adds fuel to the fire re: awards buzz for Joker). Her (way too early) awards buzz is a given considering who she is / her role / the success of the first Joker film.

I don’t think Margot was in a similar position with Barbie at all - the nomination was expected but never guaranteed especially given the types of performances the academy likes to nominate - Margot’s is the exact opposite of that type.

It's probably gonna win Best Picture.

I think it's going to win Original Screenplay. Best Director nom is actually pretty good sign and could win Best Picture if it wins that but Oppenheimer is very strong too. France truly messed up not submitting that for International Film.

I'm just looking at the list and Maestro is in ORIGINAL screenplay when it's a biographical drama and Bradley and Josh Singer wrote the script so that counts as original but it's based on a person's life. Barbie was moved to "Adapted" Screenplay because it's based on a doll and that's it.. Greta wrote an entire story based on those characters. What are they thinking?? Not that it had a chance anyway but Adapted screenplay is most likely going to Oppenheimer or Poor Things.

Edit: I guess it makes sense that everything based on novels, characters, short stories, etc. is considered Adapted.

I think it's the other way around. Female performances are very strong every year that it's almost impossible for people to name the same 5. Even if the category were 10, it'd feel like someone was left out. Best Actor on the other hand, can't believe Will Smith was the best that year, such a mediocre win.

While I do agree that certainly plays a role in it I think there has to be more to it. It’s odd that in the past several years actresses can get every nomination leading up to the Oscar’s, and then have it pulled right at the end. Amy Adams, Viola Davis, Lady Gaga, and now Margot Robbie. All these have specific reasons, but they were all shocking and weird, something even bigger than just a “snub.” I’m sure it has happened to actors in the past, but it doesn’t seem to plague them as much which again is odd and probably more than just more competitiveness. It’s to the point where articles are being written that say actresses in particular should always be worried going into the Oscar nominations because nothing is certain. But why is it so certain for Bradley, Colman, Cillian and Paul?
