See agreed but CIL was basically tail end of DC so it’s kinda like BTW in that it was going to be a success anyway, just to what degree? Single Ladies feels unequivocally like BEYONCÉ JUST BEYONCÉ levels of iconic. And the same goes for self titled especially after 4 did only okay commercially by her standards. CIL is like the “ofc it’s a classic bc it was the debut single we all hoped for” but I feel like self titled was suuuuch a step away from the sound and image she’d cultivated up until that point.
