I dont think crime like little petty thefts count for a lot in this list.

 

Has more to do with social unrest, political stability, life threatning crimes like violence or even worse murder, shooting etc

 

Ive seen the list of categories for these rankings before. I dont remember them all but i dont think non life threatning crimes such as shop lifting are included in it

 

And also as a former Portuguese living citizen who goes back to visit often who now lives in Canada and gets a lot of US news and travels there too... lemme tell u i feel much safer walking in most of Portugals cities than here in Canada or the US just saying (tho naturally this is also gonna vary by city/neighbourhood too)

Exactly. There are places in the US where you wouldn’t want to be when the sun goes down. Then, there are places where people don’t even half to lock their doors when they aren’t home.

My neighbourhood is definitely like that big time. Some ppl might be surprised how many dangerous neighbourhoods exist in Canada.

 

Of course i live in a large suburb (700,000 ppl give or take) and areas vary. Not every part of the city is sketch. But i came from a family of modest means/income so i ended up in the worst part of the whole city. Its homeless people begging, addicts, desperate sex workers left and right etc 

 

And im not hating on those ppl btw. I realize usually its unfortunate circumstances that push them into those situations and its sad as a society we allow that to happen and dont offer more of a system to help so its not about looking down on those vulnerable people

 

but regardless of whether its their fault or not, the point is its a dangerous party of town. U constantly see cops, arrests, someone being yelled at "hey stop" cuz they shop lifting etc. I saw someone with a gun last week which is illegal in Canada and its very rare to see out in the open unless its lawnenforcement

 

The even bigger irony is that its the only part of the city that has a lot of white ppl (cuz the city is predominantly Indian). The stereotype that white cummunities are safer cuz they dont do as much crimes and drugs is found dead

That actually makes a lot more sense because in New Zealand the past year or two crime rates have skyrocketed to record highs. The amount of home burglaries, car theft, theft from supermarkets and convenience stores, and ram-raids are insanely high. Our house alone got burgled twice last year. For a while there in my town alone there was a ram-raid every other week which we have never had before. The stories are never ending.

However... we don't have a lot of murder, extreme violence or gun crimes as a lot of countries

I mean which city/town. Cause I’m from Warsaw, but maybe different locations are distinct. Or maybe it’s just my bad luck getting into weird people all the time.
