Sadly this is a big issue that nobody talks about, and it happens all over the world, not just Afghanistan. Even in some American states, they allow 13 year old girls to get married if the parents consent!

Sorry but hard-line islam is a literal cult at this point, if this was happening in a cult like situation there would be uproar. It's just completely normalised in some of these heavily Islam countries. Obviously there is a version of Islam that can be relatively tolerant or can integrate within a non islamic country.. but at what point do we accept that these countries can take away human rights and freedoms under the guise of a religion? How can we even stop this happening? It's a mess, and I wish there could be something that could change the situation or allow the younger people to be free from the indoctrination and modernise but I just can't see it happening unfortunately.

The practice is not unique to any one faith, it occurs across all religions and regions. An analysis by the International Center for Research on Women found that what is constant across countries with high child marriage rates is not adherence to one particular faith, but rather factors such as poverty and limited education opportunities for girls.

For example, in India, where 40 percent of the world’s known child brides reside, child marriage is prevalent among both Muslims and Hindus. In Burkina Faso and Ethiopia, child marriage is practiced by Christians and Muslims alike. 23% of child marriages happen in South America, which is Catholic countries. Almost 300,000 minors were married in America between 2000–2018, including 1,000 who were 14 or younger and five who were only 10 years old on their wedding days. In America, its legal for underage girls to get married, but its illegal for them to ask for divorce!

When child marriages happen in Muslim countries, its done illegally and by secret, and if society knows, it becomes a huge issue for the public. So this issue is not normalized in Muslim countries!

I agree, but he said "hard-line" islam though, not Islam in general. Islam, like Christianity, is a spectrum. There are liberal interpretations of Islam, and there are strict interpretations of Islam. i think he was specifically talking about the strict interpretaitons of Islam (such as Sharia Law etc.. which some muslim countries don't use it for example). It is true that this may be a widespread problem, but we can't deny the fact that situation is a lot worse in Afghanistan under Taliban rule. Women aren't allowed anything. It's a failure of the West, because we focused on a military solution rather than a societal one.

Maybe? I think this is all part of human nature though, and human nature can be ugly. Without religion, we would still do these things! We just created religions to inforce and justify it.

Maybe, just weird how it's more prevelent in highly religious places that's all. Same with mass murder, do you see thousands of people being murdered with missiles or bombs in the UK or Japan or Sweden, which are mostly secular countries? Like if Palestine was a non religious place would we be having the war? I don't think so personally and I don't think humans are inherently evil, but idk I guess.

No I dont think human nature is evil at all, but its also not purely good. For example, greed and control is part of human nature that we have to control within ourself, and create a  society that keeps it in check.

You dont think Palestinians would resist if they were secular? The Palestinian resistance is not even based on religion, and Christian Palestinians are also resisting because it has nothing to do with Islam or religion. Even Zionism was a Secular movement, but eventually politicians in Palestine and Israel started using religion as a tool to be more strong.

I agree Secular countries are better and ideal (even though im a Muslim), but I think its education and western philosophy mixed with secularism that made it peaceful. Many other secular countries are extremely violent and had none religious violent ideologies.
