I'm so disappointed in some of the comments in this thread, but I'm not surprised. 

You can't convince me that the treatment Rachel is getting is not completely overblown and misogynistic. IT IS. I can't believe some of you are falling for it. I won't belabor the point because I shouldn't have to, and you all should know better, but as just one example: Robert Pattinson FOR YEARS shaded Twilight during promotion and during filming. And never did he get even a fraction of the hate Rachel is getting. 

The film does look awful though. That isn't Rachel's fault. Some people seem to be implying she has any kind of creative control which she doesn't. Delusional. They should have had live action people play the dwarves. 

ALSO, the original film IS creepy and supports ideas we now know are problematic! Get over it. She said it and it's true. That doesn't mean you can't still enjoy the original, but the whole point of a remake is to have a new take on it. If you want to watch the original film, watch the original film and let people who want to try to enjoy something new enjoy something new.

Yes Grumpy is a cruel misogynist at first but he soon comes to realise that he’s wrong and becomes the one who treasures Snow White the most. It’s a very progressive lesson learned there I think.

And yes Snow doing all the cooking and cleaning for the men is a little old fashioned but it’s only done in gratitude to them helping her. One good deed deserves another etc.

And I’ve never seen anything wrong with Snow White dreaming of her prince. It’s romantic and many women/people want romantic love, regardless of what hard-core feminists say today. Funny that the main percentage of people who watch rom-coms are women. It doesn’t diminish their strength at all.

I know she’s not a very good representation of the typical strong independent woman, but she displays other sides of femininity and humanity which are also extremely virtuous, such as kindness, compassion, maternity, positivity and bravery in the face of suffering etc, something which the modern day seems to dismiss a lot.

 

You’re right tho the hatred towards Rachel Z is overblown and horrible, but that’s the way of celebrity culture these days and she should’ve been warned about that. She’s only young. I mean even I was a little opinionated sh*t when I was younger. (Probably still am lol).

I think, from what’s been unearthed and what the actors have said so far seems to completely disrespect the original, that’s why most people are angry, and they’re taking it out on Rachel. These kind of remakes certainly have room to change and improve upon the originals, but not in the expense of them. It should celebrate the original, not butcher it. Plus from a creative standpoint the stylisation they’ve gone for is awful. I mean pantomime level. I know it’s just a kids movie but so was the original and they payed way more love and care on it’s aesthetics.

(Btw not a good example to make because Snow White is an all time beloved classic and Twilight is, to put it bluntly, modern garbage).

I just don't think anyone would make a movie in 2023 with the exact plot of the original. I'm not going to write a whole novel, but as one example, the prince is chasing her without her showing consent, the whole thing is about kissing a girl who is unconscious... etc. I mean it's a fantasy film so I get it but Rachel wasn't wrong when she pointed out maybe it could use an update.

I'm sorry but you're basically saying the same things that Rachel Z said that got people so annoyed at her.

Snow demonstrated her romantic interest in the Prince when he first approached her (approached her like any guy will approach a girl he likes to ask her out). She was startled at first and ran because she didn't want him to see her dressed in rags! Not because she was scared. And Snow sending the dove to him was a symbol that they were an item. That was her showing consent in this interpretation. Then she suddenly disappears, (for over a year it seems), so of course he is going to search for her out of concern.

And as for the kiss. He thought she was dead! So he gave her a kiss out of respect/love/grief for his dead loved one. So if my girlfriend dies I can't give her a loving kiss goodbye before they close the coffin because I don't have her consent? A bit ridiculous imo.

Okay. People need to leave her alone. It's ridiculous. All I remember her saying was that snow white shouldn't need a prince to save her. They're making a new version. It's 2023. Not everyone has to like it, but the misogyny and double standards are insane. That's all. I don't have anything else to say about it.

I wasn't attacking Rachel in any way. I was just clarifying some misconceptions. I agree the treatment of her is awful. She has acted very foolishly yes but that doesn't justify all the hate but like you said, it's 2023.

The original is perfect! No way a modern film/ remake could combine the eeriness, comedy, tragedy, and warmthness of the OG and make it cohesive. It would fail spectacularly. In fact, the OG is creepy because its more realistic and subtle in its messages. That ending is almost surreal in a way with a "kingdom in heaven". How would it compete with that ending??? Id check it out though when its on Redbox.
