Bad Bunny about accusations of queerbaiting

"I get an endless number of negative comments and sexist and homophobic ones, without being homosexual, for dressing like that,”

“Maybe the queer person suffers more, but it is not like I put on a skirt and go out and they say ‘Look, how cool.’ They’re going to attack me with all their force anyway.” It’s another delicate subject, he says.

“You don’t know the reasons why a person is wearing that. You weren’t in his mind when he decided to put on a skirt or a blouse. You don’t know what’s inside him, what’s in his heart.”

When asked if dressing femme reflects a part of his identity, he suggests it’s not that deep: “You do it because you want to and it makes you feel good and it makes you feel happy.”

That's not "Queerbating" - That's "Gatekeeping".

This "Only queer people can do X or Y" mentality is actively working against the cause.

Time. It will not wait, no matter how hard you hold on...

he spilled imo! maybe i’m out of the loop, but in regards to fashion, artistry, his music & the constant allyship he’s shown to the queer community… i really don’t understand why he’s getting backlash :franminervini:

if we’ve been fighting to break the stereotypes of heteronormativity & being restricted to gendered fashion, why are we trying to police and attack bad bunny for wearing a skirt?? the skirt does not denote his sexuality, it doesn’t denote his gender identity, it doesn’t imply he’s “queerbaiting,” if we even want to entertain the very loose use of that term here.

i really think he put it best here. let people wear what they want! it’s 2023 and it’s not helping at all to accuse every artist that breaks gender/social norms of “queerbaiting” or pandering. just my 10¢ :vegas:

plusss he’s HAWT, my god. can’t we just revel in the fact that he’s a fierce ally, is comfortable enough in his skin to appeal to his straight AND queer fan bases while being true to his vision, and is as seggsy as he is? :bradley:

I agree with most of what he said, but are you seriously gonna use "maybe" when comparing criticism you ,as a cis het man (a deconstructed one, but still), get to what everyday existence means to a queer person ?

That's not queerbaiting, some gays should stop attacking allies, it's exhausting.

I know some people who act like know it alls about the community and try to diminish even other fellow queer people let alone fellow allies. I myself have felt slighted number of times just because I wasn't gay enough for them.

Istg they made me feel worse than a random homophobic person.

I'm not very good with Social Mediaᵀᴹ

well it would be nice if he spoke more on his feminine side to break a bit of stigma

other straights could then relate and also be more understanding of queer people

but whatever thats just my onion :lolly:

You’re arguing over semantics and overlooking his message.

Dressing femme isn't queerbaiting, He's been open about being heterosexual. When even straight men go against gender norms that's a good thing.
