Do you agree with Taylor being the best at re-inventing herself?

No lol Gaga and Bey are miles better at “re-inventing” themselves. Taylor is good at it too, don’t get me wrong, but at a much smaller scale imo.

Taylor’s only reinvention was Reputation. The rest is literally just her growing up :awkney: No discernible iconic imagery to associate with each era, no new ‘Look’, no new thematics or sound… I genuinely don’t understand associating her of all people to the concept of ‘Eras’ when there’s Madonna, Kylie, Cher, Gaga, Beyonce, Mariah, Katy, Rihanna, Britney etc. around who have much more material to show for themselves when it comes to reinvention than Taylor…

And before anyone comes for me,

She is the best today in that she can reinvent herself while still keeping her audience, growing her fanbase and adding something new to her career, whether that is image or sales etc.  She has consciously made an effort to keep each era distinct which obviously helps in regards to an eras tour.

I think she's good at marketing herself and making each era feel like their own, but I wouldn't say that she goes to the lengths as someone like Gaga. I mean, obviously I'm biased because I'm on a Lady Gaga forum, but I do think her eras are more distinctive than Taylor's. But clearly Taylor's doing something right because she's uber popular.

the only visual difference between most of her eras is bangs or no bangs (or curls) and sparkles or no sparkles. however she's one of the last big Album artists. that's something to be celebrated... but her "eras" are so indiscernible. especially sonically/lyrically

I have never seen Taylor as a master of radical reinventions, paying homage to your past with different eras is not the same thing. She takes few risks and is a clever songwriter with loads of commerical appeal, not an innovator or artistic chameleon. Gaga is much better at distinct eras and reinventions than Taylor.

I'm sorry but aside from the whole "country-pop girl" to "pure pop girl" transformation, I don't see a bit of difference between her album cycles' styles :rip:

If you're looking for an artist who has a distinctive style every album cycle, rarely revisiting the same one, then it's Gaga.

Not really

Taylor really hasn't shifted that much.....she basically went from country pop to country folk/folk pop and then back to pop. The only real shift, in terms of music and her look, is Reputation.

I do think it's impressive that her fanbase has stayed with her. Let's be real little monsters would mostly be gone if Gaga tried to switch to rock (she lost a lot of fans between Joanne and Chromatica) or tried to deviate the slightst bit from pop.

If we're talking different eras, though, in terms of "both" looks and and music....I would say Beyonce and Lana fit that bill more than Gaga or Taylor.

Madonna is the mother and the template of reinvention.  Gaga is the closest artist we have today for reinvention. I ne er used to think of Taylor as being that distinct with reinventing herself but I have to admit, she has done that. Not just country to pop, but then the foray into the folk-pop of folklore, and then to the sleeker sounds of midnights she really has mixed up her musical styles and reinvented herself a lot. It really hits home watching the eras tour. Gaga could pull off an en even more extreme eras tour if she wanted to.

Having distinguishable eras isn't reinvention. :huntyga: However, Taylor did reinvent her sound from Fearless to 1989 to Folklore - three very distinct albums sonically. That's definitely commendable :golfclap:

I'd still say Gaga done more of reinvention artistically - from TF to BTW to C2C to the country-rock tinged ballad era. There's also acting - murderous vampire to Ally Maine to Mrs Gucci.

But Madonna definitely is the queen of reinvention.

Gaga absolutely. In fact I think Gaga could do it better than Taylor but sad as I am to admit it, I do not think Gaga could sell out Sofi for 6 nights in a row. 70,000 people a night, I just don't think she could. She'd be exhausted.

Beyonce absolutely. She has metamorphosed so many times and is legendary and iconic.

Madonna for sure, she already is with her 40 years of Madonna tour.

Taylor yes, for her, those eras are big, but like Party said, it was one big shift from country to pop with 1989. Then from 1989 to Reputation was huge (we won't get into the gay-lor implications of that but that's a thing too) and from Rep to the folk songs was also big.

No I don't, but I don't really know why that seems as important to some as it does. I think artistic growth is all that is needed.
