I have a freakishly good memory for weird facts lol, so I recall the details. The assistant didn't work more than 40 hours a week, but allegedly worked crazy hours that weren't in her contract and therefore qualified for overtime. For example, something like 3 days for 13+ hours....which is kind of insane even if it fits in the 40 hour a week frame.

Gaga definitely owed her the money and was in the wrong, but it wasn't quite as bad as the press spun it (the press spun it like Gaga was making her work 40+ hours a week and was refusing to pay her). I remember some reporters saying Gaga's attorney was dumb and should just settle. But Gaga was allegedly angry as the assistant stole from her, and the assistant would complain that doing normal assistant stuff like heating up food was "slave labor." The assistant was also white, so that's pretty cringe. Gaga also said something like "sure, you are my slave" sarcastically while in court which uh...didn't go over well as a lot of the press left out that a) the assistant first made the comparison and b) the assistant was white. Because if people were unaware of those facts, that sarcastic quip came across as racist.

There was also rumors of this assistant writing a tell-all book that actually never happened so the whole settlement thing instead of a mere slander trial against this assistant may be mainly done to avoid a book.

Also if I remember well the girl waited a year before to sue and Gaga said in court that she had just burned all the money she got therefore now wanted more and would come up with claims.

It's weird to think it was actually to her unemployed/ degree-free/ inexperienced very  young good friend she gave this very well paid job that allowed her to travel the world without paying for food or a rooftop... To ends this way.

Tbh as an MJ stan, I know better than to believe accusations/allegations until they've gone to trial and been litigated

Though I'm not fully aware of what's actually being alleged with her. I don't listen to her very often, I might spin Juice and Jerome a couple times a month, so I didn't make it my business.

To be fair that whole lawsuit was about fair pay, not SA or even unreasonable work conditions (but I guess that was an underlying threat). I think it was probably true and I think it was inappropriate behaviour.

The documents didn't seem to suggest the assistant viewed it as SA, just that it was an expectation above and beyond (because Gaga was lonely) and she deserved to be paid more for surrendering her private life in favor of fulfilling work obligations (which I agree with)

You'd think she probably has a team that handles this sort of stuff and advises her. 

 

Having seen some of the court filing, the employee was never threatened with her job because of her weight. Lizzo and her team offered to put her through therapy because she didn't seem herself but she thought she wouldn't get called back in the future if she did that so she kept performing. I think the news are slandering Lizzo a bit on this.
