I remember when I first became a fan and told a senior manager at work (in early 40s I reckon) that I was going to her reputation concert, he was like "oh yeah I've heard 1989, very good stuff". Kinda underwhelming that she included only 5 vault tracks, considering she wrote over 150 songs for 1989 writing over 150 songs doesn’t mean all 150 were produced or even fully written.. it could have been a few lines for one, a fun melody for another… like she said about the bridge of august, she had the line “meet me behind the mall” written for years and always wanted to incorporate it into a song, but nothing felt right til folklore was being formed… for all we know.. these “150 songs written” could have been transformed into songs that were reworked later down in her career..
