What do we know about the “original” LG6?

I think it's sounded like The Cure

If I remember correctly the group (djws was a part of) said on twitter that more music with Gaga is coming or something like that

And I understand why Bloodpop didn't like the songs when he listened at Gaga's birthday

A full album of tropical house like The Cure ? I'm not here for it and I'm glade Bloodpop said the truth to Gaga about the music didn't sound like it was her

Chromatica was a need, an exorcism for her

It's sad we didn't have the promo due to the Covid but making the album was good for her and her mental health

She seems happier since

I remember her telling fans backstage about “Frankenstein”. Also fans were speculating that “The Witching Hour” was the name of a new album/EP after she said that randomly at the end of her Coachella set.  I also remember her being in the studio during Joanne World Tour, but that could easily just be related to ASIB, L4S or just Chromatica.

People also thought she was going to release something for the AMA’s that year, which ended up just being a performance of the cure. But honestly, I really thought something was gonna come out  mid Joanne because she suddenly ditched  the “country girl” look and was all about high heels and wigs all over again, it was confusing :bradley:

There is no original LG6. She was working on A Star Is Born soundtrack around that time, and Chromatica was started in 2017 and finished by 2019. There is an original LG5 with songs produced by RedOne.

all of her albums have an "original" idea, there's nothing that special about the demos of Joanne that isn't any different from the concept stages for all of her records

the albums that seemed to have the least amount of concept development were TFM and BTW whilst TF, ARTPOP, Joanne and Chromatica seemed to undergo a lot of exploration for what she and the label wanted to finalise on

mother, what must i do?

I think Garibay recently said that there was like 5 completely different versions of each song from Born This Way, did I dream that?

Frankensteined was always tied in with RedOne’s work on pre-Joanne. I remember when fans mentioned that she said she wanted to release some b-side or outtake stuff, but knowing how restrictive her contract with Interscope is when it comes to unreleased music, it probably would’ve never happened. Still, I’d love to hear that song some day! Even Elton John was living for some of the tracks.

That was Chromatica indeed. She recorded Stupid Love then.

I remember some people after Coachella saying that she'd drop an EP before tour started, with The Cure being the lead from it. I never believed that for one second.

Then there was the Frankenstein'd thing where she supposedly sang it backstage for fans at a JWT date. Rumours swirled that this track would be the LG6 lead, and that LG6 would be a RedOne/DJWS produced dark pop album. This never came to fruition though, because I don't think she ever worked with Red during that time. The last time was in late 2015/early 2016. She did work with DJWS during 2017 but I think this was mainly for JWT interludes, not LG6.

Then ASIB came out, hype died down a bit until the Haus Labs announcement video, where the original instrumental for Babylon was heard. By this point it had been nearly 3 years since Joanne's release, and we knew she had stopped working with DJWS on the project. I think the producers we knew she was working with at the time were Tchami, Bloodpop, Boys Noize, and maybe BURNS? There was also talks of that SOPHIE collab but that never happened due to obvious and heartbreaking circumstances.

So I think what would eventually become Chromatica (the sad ballad album) was in the very early writing stages in 2017, and then sometime in early 2019 they changed it into dance pop per Bloodpop's suggestion to Gaga. During the summer of 2019 they probably scrapped and reworked a lot of tracks to turn them from ballads to house, dance and electro tracks. Fall 2019 is probably when the likes of 911, Sour Candy, Rain On Me, and Stupid Love were conceived, because in my opinion they don't sound like they used to be ballads. Whereas tracks like Free Woman, Fun Tonight, Enigma, Replay, Sine From Above were quite clearly written as ballads and converted to pop.

Sorry for the long post, I kinda wanted to map that whole timeline out for myself tbh. It was a very interesting time to be a Gaga stan, as we really weren't sure if she'd ever return to pop music.

I feel like the “sad piano song” quote gets kind of stretched at times. Most of her pop songs have always started on the piano as ballads, and later transposed into electro pop/dance songs.

Although it’s true that LG was writing sad songs on the piano, the earliest demos for LG6 were all dance pop. As a matter of fact, bloodpop said the first song they worked on together was Stupid Love, and the earliest demo we have of that song was dance pop influenced, albeit more late ‘90s than the one we got on the album. Enigma, Plastic Doll, and Babylon happened shortly after.

Boys Noize worked on Rain on Me and Free Woman back in 2018, which we can corroborate since Alex mentioned that she went out and bought a Moog modulator system. All of the demos we have (sans 1000 Doves) are pretty much dance tracks. It’s pretty clear that they had a general direction to go with that album, even if Gaga wasn’t in the headspace to fully embrace it yet.

That was only for 1000 Doves, Chromatica was always conceived as a dance pop album

But 1000 Doves is an ARTPOP rejected song ?

If I remember correctly I've heard an ARTPOP rejected song joined the Chromatica tracklist
