There’s apparently a version for foreigners visiting Japan as well, although I think it’s just used colloquially. They think it’s either like a) anime, b) hyper-futuristic, or c) everything is Shinjuku. It’s so interesting to see how people romanticize places and cultures.

Just based on what he looks like, specifically the outfit, i already know the Parisians were rude, weirded out or confused . I think the problem is people think they are going to experience Paris the way they’ve seen it portrayed to them, but that would only be possible if they lived there for a few months. I had the opportunity to, and if I based my opinions off that first week… it would have been rough. After months of actually living, walking and talking you start to appreciate specific things that actual locals love about living there. 
 

One thing I didn’t truly appreciate until I left was how beautiful the city really is. When the sun hits certain older buildings at a specific time of day, the limestone shines. There’s this glow that reflects across streets because of it. 
 

But what exactly does he mean by the “I felt like I was in the Middle East” comment? Because that’s where I see him being a typical phobic/racist American.

OT : I studied tourism and i'm working in this market, even guided some tours in Paris. While Paris could use some air fresheners and multiple adjustments, i can understand how frustrating it can be to visit Paris when you grew up with a idolised image (i felt the same at Hollywood) also its a bummer when everything is in maintenance. But on the other side ... those are not the places to go at all lol who hangs out at Gare Du Nord ?  Paris can be very tiring and unpleasant but also got wonderful and cultural places too, they can try it all they want with mcdos but I'll still choose brasseries/Salon de thé. Also shallow mericans ? How new

also the things that he’s showing in the video is a very common  characteristic of big metropolitan cities like omg trash cans ?? Pigeons ??? 

and many other cities have the same ugly suburban buildings such as London Barcelona Milan or even New York, it’s not specific to Paris. Because yes, poor people deserve to have housing too, if tourists are deranged by that it’s there own problem. Not to mention the way he immediatly compares the dirty parts of the city with Middle-East, I wonder how would he react if someone said the same about some gettho neighboroods in the US…
