Canada Considers Removing Best Before Dates To Reduce Food Waste

I honestly think people would still produce a lot of food waste. The problem is our 21st century mentality towards groceries. We should just be buying what we need in the next few days, and using it within those days, then go to the store again when we need other things. Stockpiling food that we may need, particularly perishable foods like proteins, dairy, and produce, is inherently wasteful.

I feel like some products don't even have an expiration date, just best before.

I do kind of use the 2 interchangeably lol but depending on the food and how long after I'll still try to eat it

Put the eggs in a glass of water. If they float, they're bad, if they sink, they're good to eat.

Ah yeah I heard that before. I had forgotten

What is the reason bad eggs float?

I think it's a side effect of other aspects of a busy capitalist life tbh

Having to go to the store every few days when u work all day plus other home responsibilities makes it tough time wise to have to go to the store twice a week

So most ppl including myself end up trying to do a week's worth at once

But it's true, it's very hard to plan what u need for an entire week and almost every time something ends up getting thrown out :fail:

The porous shell let’s air in over time, between the shell and the membrane. The more air, the more oxydation, and therefore more chances of bacteria forming. (that’s what I heard anyway, someone can peer-review this loll)

From “mid-float” to “sink” it’s good
