She is a SAG AFTRA member. As well as a member of the Academy.

This is true. I used to be in the business as a teen. All the stars you see are in the unions. There is no way around it if you are doing big projects. I also worked as a personal assistant for an acting manager and I saw the submissions for big films tv shows. Every one of them said union. Only non union were low budget indie or student films

Lol what are talking about? Jesus y’all google and learn something before replying please. Of course you are not required to be a part of SAG to act. Hell you can be SAG eligible and not a union member of SAG AFTRA!  Which is why I was asking for clarification on Gaga’s membership status to see how it could potentially limit her.

If you work 2 SAG roles as a non unions, by the 3rd Union job you have to join the union. So in other words, once you hit your 3rd booking for a SAG AFTRA project, you cant work union projects until you pay the fees to join the union. All big projects that are on tv or movies for big studios are union jobs.  I was 1 job away from being SAG eligible myself.

Thank you for that clarification because the rules on the website were far from being that clear. It also seemed like recording artists had different rules but again I read a bunch and then didn’t know exactly what applied to Gaga.

The Chromatica film is also likely near complete so studios would look to completed-non scripted content to be pushing out without scripted content coming out with the writers/actors striking.

Yeah The Chromatica Ball film isn’t a scripted product with a full team of actors and writers so this wouldn’t fall under that realm as you pointed out I believe. I think the bigger struggle would be the release and the platform. Honestly…she would be better off releasing it for sale as a standalone purchase like her albums. Given her presence as an actress now, I don’t think it would be good publicity if she released that film through MAX or Apple TV+ knowing all these platforms are part of the reason why SAG and WGA are striking and with good reason.

Of course! Glad to help! I have grown up around the industry in SoCal and since I was in it for a couple years I know more bc I have had managers clear it up for me and other clients

This isn’t totally true. There are non union performers who can do background work as long as a certain number of SAG actors are hired first. But Gaga is of course a member.

I work in the industry and while this strike (on top of the WGA’s) will have MASSIVE consequences, it is necessary. The stances the AMPTP have taken are absolutely shameful, and their refusal to negotiate (especially in regards to AI for both writers and actors, residual structures for streaming, and writers’ room staffing) is offensive. 

I also think the real behind the scenes battle here is not between the AMPTP and the unions but within the AMPTP itself. It’s my belief that the streamers are eager to drag this out and hemorrhage their competition (networks and cable) into going out of business. And to be honest, they can. What the unions are asking for would cost Amazon less than .006% of their annual revenue. It’s nothing to them, to Apple, to Disney. And yet, they will sit and sit and sit until network and cable television is threatened and extinguished for good, and at the expense of million of entertainment professionals. It really is shameful.

also for anyone curious, don’t expect these strikes to even be close to being over until Halloween at the *absolute earliest*. I actually think more likely that they will go on until the New Year. I hope I’m wrong, but it’s really not looking good.

I wonder how/if this could affect the possibility of Gaga performing new shows in Vegas (if it were being planned). It seems like even if her shows aren’t tied to film/tv, since she’s a member she wouldn’t be able to perform, right?

Good on the cast of Oppenheimer for sticking to their guns and making a spectacle.

Next we absolutely need to see digital-effects/CGI artists and their teams, and the people who work on video games unionised so they no longer have to work in inhumane conditions for little pay
