i asked AI and it helped answer some questions:

As for who the U.S. owes, the debt is held by a variety of entities, including both domestic and foreign investors. The largest holders of U.S. debt are often domestic investors such as individuals, mutual funds, pension funds, and state and local governments. These investors purchase U.S. Treasury securities, which are considered safe investments due to the trust in the stability of the U.S. government.

Foreign countries also hold a significant amount of U.S. debt. Countries like China and Japan have been notable holders of U.S. Treasury securities. However, it's worth noting that the composition of foreign holders can change over time, as countries adjust their investment strategies and portfolio allocations.

It's important to highlight that holding U.S. debt is generally seen as a safe and reliable investment due to the perceived stability of the U.S. economy and the belief that the U.S. government will honor its debt obligations.

Yes. That's Government Debt 101

And usually when most debt is held domestically (which is the case for most countries including the US if you include the Federal Reserve) there tends to be less pressure on the currency when debt rises.

Still, debt held domestically doesn't mean it doesn't matter. It can still cause serious issues if it gets too high

Highest amount of debt belongs to bonds I believe

Pretty much all of it. But I think the user was asking who it was owed to

The user may not have known US debt is in bonds (surprisingly many ppl do not know how government debt works) but regardless of how debt is issued I think his question is who it's owed to

Something pissing me off as it helps fuel inflation smh

I mean there's pros to it as well but, I'm not convinced it outweighs the cons
