Rita revealed there is no concept of mystery around celebrity life.

“I think the mystery is gone. You don’t see massive groups of people crying when a famous person gets into a car, like back in the days when you would see footage of The Beatles getting off a plane,” said the songwriter.

Rita continued, “Now people can see what you’re doing all the time.”

“You have Instagram, TikTok, and it’s up to you how much you share, but if you’re not connected, people are like, ‘Who do you think you are?”’ stated the TV personality.

The outlet reported that Rita is the most popular British celebrity on IG and TikTok.

The singer mentioned that she used social media for her music promotion and lately she’s been posting news about her new album, You & I, which is released now.

“I choose to be open with my social media, but I miss the idea of mystery,” remarked Rita.

Taylor Swift says hi

The real mystery is why Rita thought she'd get 100k retweets when her posts barely get 1k engagement

That literally still happens all the time…

this :icega: There’s so many videos and pictures of stars getting  swarmed by fans and paparazzi doing the most basic of things. It’s not a “that doesn’t happen anymore” thing, Rita just isn’t Taylor Swift or Beyonce.

Ehhh yall shading but I don’t think she’s far off the mark. It’s not as monumental as say Michael appearing in the public after months/years because as she said, they can connect to us/get filmed via social media nearly constantly in most cases. It’s still a big deal to that fanbase when their fav steps out, but to the GP it’s not as noteworthy as it used to be because they truly wouldn’t be seen or heard of for months/years

Plenty of mystery to how she is famous tbh.

On a serious note, this is pretty much a carbon copy of what Gaga said in the The Fame (Monster) era and I think she's been successful at bringing at back. Today there are quite some adored superstars who play with privacy and being public no?

Big celebrities with a devoted following still do. The Beetles were the equivalent of boy band level fame. We had it with Backstreet Boys and NSync, even with One Direction.

it's not a lie that social media made the celebrities being more relatable and more "human beings" and less of a myth, the celebrity stardom doesn't exist anymore... there was a special distance between the celebrity and their fans, but now it's just gone and instead of anticipating every week to read news about your fave from the magazines, you just wait for them to post on instagram and you feel like you're part of their life..

So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

She tried to make a point and she kinda did it. It’s true, the huge pop icons era is fading away. In my opinion, we will never have another Michael Jackson, Madonna or Britney Spears ever again. Everything changed in the music industry and it’s ok and normal. Artists share a huge part of their private life with social media, some even had reality shows or “documentaries” about their everyday life. They are not myths or “godly creatures”, that are unapproachable. In my opinion, the decay of the superstar started with reality shows and then with social media. In the 20th century people were waiting for an article in a magazine or hear something in the news for their favourite artist. Really a few artists managed to keep themselves private. Gaga and Beyonce are two that are really private and stay away from social media. Especially Beyonce made herself look like an unapproachable goddess and she chooses when we will know something about her.

When we're not together tell me everything's gonna be alright

We have this "relatability" culture that lowered the bar for what we consider a celebrity. We don't idolize people with one in a million talent, work ethic or a unique perspective to their craft. We love people who are humble, down to earth and easy to digest.

Taylor Swift has probably been at the forefront of this. People can see themselves in that unseasoned plain artist because most people are likely to be unseasoned and plain like her. Heck, people criticized Gaga because they think she's so pretentious when talks about certain techniques for acting.

This, everyone want someone relatable now and down to earth and if you're not you are deemed as pretentious or egotistical or something.

Although I disagree about Taylor :huntyga:
