This was the sleepiest album rollout ever. Even Slut Pop had more social traction. They really wanted to ride the residual fumes of Unholy and thought buying the Nicki verse would cover the rest.

Tove Lo is a great example of this. She hasn’t had a big hit in years and her albums don’t do huge numbers but she keeps putting out great music and is constantly touring and playing at festivals. She may not have mainstream success anymore but her fans are still being fed and I’m sure she’s making decent money with all the small venues her fans continue to fill up.

And her shows ALWAYS are full and people really love to see her live. She was my last pre Covid show and she was amazing

This! I can't believe they recognized this on time and actually released the album without an additional single. So bizarre

Yes ! She really is a great example. And now that I think about it more, maybe drifting away from at least the „Top x00” format might result in more freedom to create the music artists want to create and not worry about large GP success but more the uniqueness factor, so them kidz are picking the songs up for their tic tric and trac videos. Big stars will still be big, I doubt anything will change about that, but the justification to call some project a flop goes away in a sense. Just because x y and z didn’t sell as much doesn’t mean the art/artist is trash and should end their career, they will still be loved by their fans (ARTPOP is an good example.. GP didn’t like it, LMs maybe were questioning it, but they didn’t migrated in big numbers away from her.. Reputation is another thing I guess, when you see how devastated she was when it didn’t chart the Grammys and was so focused on numbers when in the end the tour was packed af)

side note: the Tove Lo x SG Lewis album is actually happening and being recorded right now. So excited haha

I was rooting for her.

Looked at some of her tour tickets. Some places are gonna be a tough sell so many a big single can help boost.

Crazy to me that the trend of making less than 3min songs (sometimes less than 2min...) is extremely widespread now in the pop & rap corners of the music industry, most likely to a point of no return. And despite that, a lot of artists (like some mentioned above and on page 1) are struggling to chart, and chart high. The short songs are simply to make it easier to clip on social media, and to maximize the amount of plays that can occur during a day, to increase the potential sales.

It's so sad, like some of you said in another thread, I feel like the quality is slipping FAST.

Is that good for her standards?

Would she be considered a B list celeb or C list?

I don't believe she's ever charted an album or mixtape on the hot 100 so this is great as far as i'm concerned

She's never been that mainstream except unholy and that's just a feature so i think she'd be proud of this
