Travis Scott faces possible criminal charges for Astroworld tragedy

 A Texas grand jury is meeting to weigh possible criminal charges against rapper Travis Scott and others over a 2021 crowd crush at a musical festival that left 10 dead and injured thousands, Scott’s lawyer confirmed.

Attorney Kent Schaffer said it was unclear whether the Houston grand jury would hand down a decision on Thursday. The criminal probe includes Scott and several others involved in planning of his Astroworld Festival in November 2021.

Prosecutors will present evidence to grand jurors and ask them whether there is probable cause to support criminal charges. The proceeding does not necessarily mean any charges will be filed.

The probe stems from a deadly surge of fans at Astroworld in Houston, where thousands were injured when the over-capacity crowd pressed forward as Scott took the stage. Ten people including a 10-year-old boy were killed by compressive asphyxiation.

The tragedy unleashed a wave of litigation against Scott and the festival’s organizers, including entertainment giant Live Nation, which merged with Ticketmaster in 2010.

The plaintiffs allege Scott, Live Nation and more than two dozen other defendants let too many people into the venue despite knowing the risks because they wanted the concert to appear packed.

At least 4,900 fans were injured, according to lawyers representing victims in lawsuits against Scott and the organizers.

was it his responsibility to control how many people were allowed in though? and letting them all storm in at once?  

I guess it's his or his labels fault for having bad festival organisers? and live nations?

I mean if Gaga concerts didn't have good crowd management this could happen too but I'd never blame Gaga for that

I believe I read that he is one of the festival owners and did encourage people multiple times on twitter to break through.

From what I remember, its more because when it was happening staff and management tried to tell him so he could stop the show and try and get control of the situation/help tell people to move it so EMS could get through and he ignored them.

Oh don’t see how he could lawfully be held accountable for the mismanagement of that venue’s capacity. It’s not his job. He did not personally make that call.

I get where you’re coming from, but he did encourage the audience to be chaotic, and he also didn’t stop his show for the ambulances to come aid those who were hurt because he would’ve lost the $2M or whatever it was that he was getting paid for live-streaming the show. So he does hold some responsibility for this.
