There's a clear reason for that: the US Constitution says the government and religious organizations are explicitly separate. The LGBTQ+ community is not a religious org and, imo, there's not really a good legal argument against flying pride flags. It’s honestly one of the safest, most accepting cities in the nation for people like us (and everyone else) and I’m so proud of it. American secularism is against religion dictating the laws, but you can still involve religion if its democratically voted, and doesnt contradict the constitution. What really makes me angry though is the government can waste tax money and precious time to pass stupid laws like this, when theres a-lot more productive things they could be doing. Not even the few Yemenite-American ladies on the newly elected council whose victory they were celebrating? But as a European I don't find it particularly shocking. Personally I don't feel the need for my city hall to display a rainbow flag to feel validated in my sexuality or safe in the streets or represented among my peers. I also think it's a rather good idea to prevent such things as religious symbols being represented on public institutions to separate state from religion but that's not how you Americans do it. Tbh I kinda understand that some people may be tired of the omnipresence of gay stuff during June cause even I as a gay person am sometimes.
