crazygato 455 Posted June 21, 2023 Share Posted June 21, 2023 Havent you all thought Gaga's discography is strange and kind of messy? Let me explain.. For her first 3 albums (TF, TFM, and BTW) Gaga evolved very fast but her evolution was consistent. You can place a thread between each album and see the growth and "continuity " for each. It gets a little jagged when we get to ARTPOP( no this is not to bash the album). To me it didnt seem like the correct "follow up" to Born This Way. With BTW she was showing off more of her vocals with agressive production. The follow up to that shouldve been an álbum similar to A Star Is Born or Joanne. Minimal production, more focus on vocals. It seemed more logical and natural evolution than an agressive EDM album.That wouldve been an awesome quartet. 1. The Fame (2008) 2. Fame Monster (2009) 3. Born This Way (2011) 4. A Star Is Born /Joanne type album (2013-2014) After that she shouldve released an álbum similar to Chromatica, giving focus on vocals but also mixing it up equally with dance beats. Going back to dance but in a "safe" way after a "serious" album. 5. Chromatica (2016-2017) After the seriousness and talent of ASIB/ Joanne and the fun but safe content of Chromatica, the natural progression is an agressive EDM album, a fun but confrontational one, thats when an álbum like ARTPOP should be released, after Chromatica. 6. ARTPOP (2019-2020) Of course if it all went like this the albums would be quite different and we wouldnt have many of the iconic songs that they contain. They probably would have different titles too if this was the progression. I dont know if im explaining myself correctly but her albums besides the first 3 and have felt "random" and like they shouldve came earlier or later. ARTPOP feels way more disconnected from her whole discography and neither Joanne or Chromatica took elements of it or sound remotely similar I wouldn’t count ASIB because the sound was purposely chosen for the film Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Simply because those explored sounds in a way that resonated more with me. I liked the production more. I am very critical on ARTPOP admittedly, but I don't think it is a bad record.
