As if Gaga, Beyonce, Adele aren't, please if we're gonna criticize and scrutinize this woman for this than please drag the others ones (including the males like Drake, The Weeknd who never speak up on anything) as well.

Thanks.

The moment she released "calm down" and made a profit from the community, she made herself an activist and an ally, so yes, she must speak out in those states during her tour. you don't really need to be an activist to speak about what is right, it's not about gay marriage anymore, it's about our existence as individuals, they are trying to bring us back to the closet. so she needs to be ashamed to say nothing.

So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

Absolutely! Some people expect too much. But I think it’s really crazy how someone with so little public opinion on important issues can succeed so heavily in a society that is usually so concerned with public figures’ opinions, past and present comments, and who they align themselves with

As most know, she doesn’t really alienate anyone from this method of celebrity, but who is she really helping when she’s in such a powerful position

Dolly Parton has the same approach as Taylor, yet the effect she has on people is very strong and effective. Just by being loving and accepting of everyone (not in a politica way), its enough for people to accept whatever shes saying. There are many ways outside of the Hollywood script to show support for the LGBTQ+ community that reaches conservatives more effectively. The script given is fine and good, but we shouldnt attack people who dont go by the progressive hollywood script.

The only reason she did Calm Down was because everyone at the time (including mainstream media) was painting her as a white supremacist empathizer.

And are you saying once you make money from being an activist, you can never change, and you are forced to support the community forever and constantly? :wtf:

This.

Everything you do - or choose not to do - is related to politics, in this age. Literally everything. I don't get how some users here can be so.... blind, to it all. Or rather they "act" as if things can be un-political because they do not wanna out themselves as conservatives, because this is how they sound like every time they go "well not everyone has to agree with their politics!!!!:

Like, ARE things political or not? To c*nservatives, they are political when it suits them and are not when it does not suit their purposes. Which is what some people here sound like.

So long ggd, it was nice while it lasted.

I also never said that being gay or black is political! Im a none white gay man lol

And if you say everything is political, tell me whats political about singing a love song or playing a video game?

I don't know whether you specifically said that or not, as I said, I'm talking about how people like you *sound* like, which is the only thing I can observe without actually getting to know you.

What love song are we talking about? As it was mentioned before in this thread, Taylor profits from LGBTQ+ people (which is true no matter what you may think), she releases a single specifically about LGBTQ+ issues, but are they not correct in criticizing her when she's not there for them when they most need it? She doesn't "have to" do anything, you are correct on that, but that does not mean that actions - or inaction, in this case - have consequences, and sometimes those consequences are being criticized, especially when you are a celebrity of that caliber, which is something I am sure she understands too. So the question is, why can't you?

So long ggd, it was nice while it lasted.

Not everyone with a large platform has to be an activist though.

Lets say Taylor spoke up about LGBTQ+ issues, but what about Slave Labor? Guantanamo Bay? Yemen War? Jailing American Journalists?

It seems like there is only one specific script for a female pop star to be an activist, and it doesnt involve anything serious, just go on stage and wear a rainbow outfit with drag queens twerking around you.

it's a very simple choice though: if you don't challenge hate, you are tolerating and indirectly empowering it.

I’ve been a big fan for awhile (wouldn’t consider myself a swiftie because I don’t eat sleep breathe Taylor), but her behavior and a lot of things being brought to light have made me take a massive step back from supporting her. She truly does not gaf about anyone, but herself. Any type of activism she has portrayed has been only to benefit her. She created an entire documentary about using her voice and has been silent ever since. She only talks feminism when it benefits her. And it’s never about creating equity between men and women. It’s about revenge. She just performed in many states that have been trying to eradicate gay and transgender people and she would never dare to speak out about that. She’s a performative activist. She indeed does disguise her covert narcissism as altruism.

She also has worked with David O Russel who allegedly assaulted his transgender niece and worked on Where the Crawdads Sing where the author has been questioned for being involved in a murder. Whatever brings in the $$$$$

People should direct their anger towards law makers and conservatives not female ally popstars who we know are left wing in their idelogoes already and are giving people a good night out not a political rally. She has YNTCD with rainbows and non binary and queer performers as her backup dancers, she supports the community, she has to fit 40 odd songs in 3 hours she can't be giving political speeches she's there to entertain her fanbase. Also the best way to change conservatives minds is a subtle approach, we know bashing them over the head results in backlash, Dolly is a good example of someone who does the same as Taylor as someone mentioned.
