Her “review” is literally just her sitting there uninterested, sighing and rolling her eyes, asking when this song will be over.

True I guess “reaction” would be the better word. I did like how she expressed at the end why she didn’t like the album

Can't blame her honestly, "Alien Superstar" and "Cuff It" are the only good songs on this album.

The "RENAISSANCE has weak lyrics" is so tired of an argument. The album references goes really deep on house and ballroom music, and a lot of those songs had repetitive and even "simpler, in your face" lyrics, it's music to get in almost a trance by the repetition of a mantra while loud electronic beats play, think of you on a club really drunk and tired from the hardships of life while dancing and listening to someone repeat "You won't break my soul" fifty times, you don't need intricate poetry to feel this sentiment, actually, those kind of lyrics could even work against the song.

You can compare all of Beyoncé's work and see how the lyricism of RENAISSANCE is wildly different from them, it's not that Bey (and her various writers) are / got lazy, everything is serving the purpose of the album

I don't know how to write in english

What is complex about an album that at its foundation it nothing more than a 'sample' album? We criticize artists like Ava max for this, but hold Beyonce to a different standard..why?

I had the opposite reaction to Renaissance tbh. I really enjoyed it on my first listen, but it has quickly grown off of me. The replay value, for me, is the weakest of her self-titled/lemonade/renaissance run.

Really, the only songs I go back to are America Has A Problem (which is a god-tier track in her discography), Alien Superstar, and Heated.

Obviously I still love her, and she's entitled to her own opinion. But I do think that some of her views on music are pretty outdated. Dance music being not meaningful and the performer needing to sing perfectly are such tired takes.

I don’t think she has a connection to music outside of this YouTube channel. She somehow went a whole year without hearing any new popular music. That tells me she doesn’t really know what’s going on and doesn’t participate in it except with a reaction. I think she has problems with dance music (she hated Chromatica too) because she doesn’t go to clubs. Not saying you have to in order to like it, but if the only experience you have with a song is listening by yourself with headphones, it might change how you feel. If you compare this to how much she loved Sabrina Carpenter’s new album that kind of proves it. I liked it too, but it’s extremely safe and commercial. I think when it comes to pop, that is her taste and there’s nothing wrong with that!

here's my thoughts on this:

She clearly has no interest in dance music :duck: one thing that RENAISSANCE and Chromatica did was celebrate the dance world, ballroom culture etc... It's not always about the lyrics! It's sometimes about the energy it brings.

One of my favourite House record labels who Honey Dijon (renaissance producer) is associated with (Defected) have a motto where they say "Not everyone understands House music" I don't think Ajayll gets these albums. Which is fine and it's not for her.

I don't think she likes music that doesn't emotionally connect with her, like this is an album for the club, so it's not gonna move her emotionally. Then again she seemed to dig ARTPOP?

Beyonce does them subtly on this album apart from SR, and does them as a nod to the culture and understands the culture. It's not just done like David guetta with Blue where they just want a hit.
