Given the trend almost everywhere is a general deceleration in population growth I don't think either of those countries will hit that mark in the next 100 years even tho they will still grow from the current point... The US would have to increase immigration further to offset low birth rates and still grow fast enough to add another 150M in the next 100 years (that's almost 1.5M a year and I think the growth rate will fall below that in the not too distant future As for Nigeria if birth rates stayed as they are now 1B may be possible but that's an assumption I wouldn't count on. At some point Africa will start to catch up a bit and industrialize enough for their birth rates to start to plummet as well. They do not have to reach a standard of living or industrialization as high as 1st world nations for that to happen. Such is what we seen with South America and Asia.
