Look at the vast majority of what they produced and it was like just promoting their friends who were like pretty low tier artists in New York or LA. The quality of the work is beside the point; if you’re not actively out there finding the people *really* generating buzz that’ll translate into subscriptions then you won’t be able to convince your owners that you’re a viable investment anymore. Paper has had some amazing cover shoots and nice interviews, too! But I don’t think it really had much to offer aside from that. It had the energy of a kinda page 6 for zillennial cool people. That just isn’t really gonna sell anymore. It’s a shame since some talented people are out of work without notice but on the other hand, some other publications will get some AMAZING talent to innovate and improve and hopefully survive.
