Where only the opinions of a few are worth. And when you say something different but realistic, they put a label on you and exclude you. Sectarian, I would say.

Gaga would never accept this kind of attitude. She has accepted the criticism. And she has always shown to be at the forefront and changed the opinions of many people with his talent and kindness. Ok, I read your posts and though you never mentioned race, that was clearly implied. Here are the points that clearly implied the color of her skin being the problem:

• "Don't change such an iconic character embedded in our popular culture."
• "Regardless of our opinions, the box office will speak and say whether or not today's world is ready for this type of controversial changes of iconic characters"
• "Does the fact that I want to protect and not change something iconic like The Little Mermaid movie, which touched the hearts of millions of people around the world, make me a racist?"
• "Why is it so hard to understand that for a fan to see their favorite movie completely remade by changing the main character"
• "It's like reliving the feeling about the new Indiana Jones movies.. they took something beloved and destroyed it."
• "Yeah. It's very offensive. Or a disappointment."

Now, I am a huge TLM fan. Ask anyone I know, but guess what? The character, Ariel, will stay the same. It's still a young mermaid who is obsessed with humans and wants to be part of their world. She will stay curious and she will still fall in love with a prince. Now if you want the realistic story, let me tell you. She dies. But this movie is a reimagining and people continue to fail to see that.

Again, the only thing changing about the character is the color of her skin, so I do not understand what you're referring to. 

If the movie does poorly, I know it will do so in a lot of Latin American countries because unfortunately, most of the issues I see, are from people from Latin America. My brother for example, feels the same way you do, but I've shut him down immediately. The facebook comments are downright racist and piss me off completely. They say the exact same things you're saying, but with added, clearly racist remarks. Now THAT is a disappointment, not your favorite character's skin color changing. 

The movie doesn't need protection. The original movie will still be there, buy it on VHS, DVD, Blu Ray, Digital, whatever! You can keep it protected in the pleasure of your own home. 

 

If you don't want to watch the movie, don't do so. 

I would say I respect your opinion, but I'd be lying. I'm sorry if this offends you, but this type of commentary about the main character (WHO IS STILL THE SAME) needs to stop. I've had enough with family/facebook.
