Precisely. They have to show the label there is financial incentive.  That is why Paul was promoting the little petition, because that is concrete to show the label that there is genuine reason to do this.

What does Troy have legal claim over? I would think that the label would own the rights to what she recorded/wrote, not him.

Most of all, I feel like people, in their excitement and analysis of all the legal technicalities, fail to ask the one important question… does Gaga actually want to release this? I have a feeling we know the answer.

Gaga is the sort of person who would rather come up with new material than dwell on the past, especially a traumatic one. She literally never even released a greatest hits record, I think this speaks volumes.

Eeeeehhhhh she did Dawn of chromatica bc it was very evidently something fans wanted. I think we assume she’s way more aware of fan desires than she actually is at this point. I’d bet that petition actually took her by surprise to some degree.

i cannot stress enough how something as simple as her releasing brooklyn nights with a cute little “to celebrate 10 years of ARTPOP…” tweet would be a great “compromise” if she doesn’t want to do act 2 or can’t for legal reasons. 

i put compromise in quotes because obviously she doesn’t owe us anything, but she clearly likes that song as it almost made the cut. and i imagine if troy owned it she wouldn’t have sang it that one time and it wouldn’t have been left on youtube for all these years. idk though

Dawn of Chromatica happened when the Chromatica era was still happening. We're talking about releasing decade-old unfinished songs, so I'm not sure this is the right comparison.
