Gaga being harassed by paparazzi

I didn't know that Gagafrontrow was ever considered "creepy" to this fanbase? I remember browsing his website for so long and he went to an insane number of shows and always uploaded audio/pics/vids. I remember being so jealous because he was able to attend almost anything Gaga did. He even teaches (or taught? not sure if he still does) a college class about Gaga and I remember reading the syllabus because I found it online :anveeroy:

Haha you just unlocked so many memories with that picture of him, but yeah I never knew this fanbase may not like him?

I wonder what happened to him, I haven’t seen him in a while…

He is quiet on Twitter and IG, you'll usually see him on his blog: https://gagafrontrow.blogspot.com/

It's complicated.

In the past, his fame was such that he was parodied on SNL as "Alphonse", a french name referencing Mathieu. I think this is one of,  if not the only time, a Gaga fan has been played on SNL for the sole purpose of being a devoted Gaga fan. He also got fame for being the Gaga Professor, as his courses and subsequent book "Lady Gaga and the Sociology of Fame" became newsworthy accross the country in 2011.

One the one hand... I probably wouldn't be quite the same person I am on here if it hadn't been for GFR and his site. Back in 2010, he had remixes, interludes and live Gaga available to download from thin air for free..... and I was able make CDs, that allowed me to carry the music everywhere I went with me.... at that time for a young Gaga fan, his site made Gaga real. I could print pictures from his site, download audio and watch videos...... the level of inspiration Professor Mathieu gave me was absolutely off the charts. I used to write him emails telling him how much I loved GFR, and it was his tutorials via DM on how he bootlegged shows by smuggling TEACs in his jackets that led me to be the person I am today, with Sara's help --- I've bootlegged every single Gaga show and every single live show I've gone to for over a decade. So he was a GIANT inspiration in my life. I even interviewed him once for Radio ARTPOP back a long time ago. He is one of the most famous collectors, he owns the Paparazzi wheelchair, he has an original "car trunk copy" of Red and Blue, his purchasing of the Red and Blue promo flyer led me down a 6 month rabbit hole down the NBC World News Archives in NYC to find the Columbus Day footage.... which I eventually, again with Sara's help, managed to uncover in full.... so many connections this man has made were GOOD. I will always appreciate what he has given to the fanbase and to me in terms of inspiration and content.

We used to be really close and trade gaga Christmas parcels every year in 2011, 2012, 2013.... But eventually we had a falling out, I can't remember precisely why, but he doesn't message me back anymore, or if so, extremely rarely. Things got difficult between us when he spoke of permanently shutting down GFR. Ever the conservationist, I urged him from all of my viewpoints to preserve it and keep it up for future generations. He told me essentially that it was his site, and he could do what he wanted with it, and that he would not keep it up. He did say I was welcome to start my own blog. (Which I did , but never fully fleshed out the way I wanted to because of real life time constraints , & the constant problem of where the fck does one safely upload 2 terabytes of various shades of copyrighted gaga stuff? )

We disagreed about GFR remaining up. I don't know if it was my words pleading with him, or others chipping in at him, but eventually he did reopen GFR and it still stands today. His site remains one of the biggest sources of Gaga live free mp3s to exist online.

But, I have friends who have had bad or not good experiences with him. Danny of FeedMyPopHeart did not get along with GFR, and accused him of siccing the FBI on Danny's site, which led to FMPH getting shuttered for copyright. FMPH was another fantastic source of Gaga digital memorabilia, and I paid to have his laptop saved from a terrible overwrite, thereby rescuing some very rare live LG recordings and remixes. Victories such as those are invaluable to me, they make me feel like all the archiving was worth it.... but I was sad that Danny and Professor Mathieu couldn't get along. And yes, an increasing feeling of dread crept up every time I'd speak of the good things he had done for people and others brought up the bad experiences they had with him.

To make matters worse, he was banned from GagaDaily for allegedly sexually harrassing a GGDer who went to a concert with him back in 2010. This was very touchy and difficult for me, a fan who idolized him, I just couldn't believe it was the same guy, but it just goes to show you you never really know people. And everyone has good and bad in them, and compassion must be shown for victim in this case, and I am not convinced he was the victim. At some point he also might have bothered Gaga too, as I heard rumors that she wasn't as jazzed to see him at the front row shows anymore.

Other fans reported of his sense of entitlement in recent years, that he was treated like all the other fans at her live shows , when they would be blocked from interacting with Gaga, and he missed out on the interactions with her or special treatment or recognition he used to have with her team and guards.

So yes, there is an increasing level of ick factor with Professor Mathieu. It's very hard for me to deal with personally because I can't just throw away the inspiration and impact he had for me --- but I have to deal with the reality that he isn't the man I saw through fan colored glasses.

What in the world!!!! :saladga:

All this time I thought he was married to a woman, and now I found out he was harassing a fan who went to a concert with him? :udidnt:

I never had any interaction with him but I always thought he was a nice guy, like @ChicaSkas said, maybe the little “fame” he got, really got to his head

ugh now that was sad to read…:(

He married his current wife fairly recently if memory serves, like within the past 5 years or so

Ashley

Doesn’t he collect autographs from other celebrities too? He must have some kind of deal.

As far as that fan goes, I would never dream of bothering Peter while he was trying to do his job. No one is entitled to an autograph.

Seeing this guy roam around chasing Gaga kinda makes me uncomfortable for some reason, even if he was respectful I still don’t like it, kinda feels like maybe that’s another reason why she doesn’t really stop for fans anymore like she used to :/

Yeah he was at the front of one of the ends of the catwalks at the Toronto show as well and she more or less acknowledged him after the camera guys caught him and his face kinda flashed on screen and she mentioned something along the lines of "seeing some new and familiar faces"

Well isnt it obvious that you shouldnt sign it and allow alot of access to your car and space? But Gaga wasnt complaining so I think they are okay.

that’s not harassment, chill out

he was respectful, gave her as much as she agreed to, told her not to hurry and followed the car to get his stuff back after she was done signing them

and she even told him that he’s going to make some bank out of it lol

that’s gaga being kind, not harassed

Gaga and her team clearly know who he is, and he has Peter's phone number so there is obviously some reason for that. Maybe Gaga and the Pap have an agreement where he will only sell pictures that she vets and pre-approves first. She's a kind queen, but signing a ton of stuff and not getting her security to chase him away says to me she wants to keep that guy sweet for whatever reason.

THIS is what harrasement looks like

I said harassed because you can clearly see how she kept telling him ok just this, then he hands her more stuff to autograph, when he gives her the little pianos to sign he’s handing about 5 of them and she says “no two is enough” and he tried to give her more and she said and “no just two” or something like that… you could see she was annoyed already but what was she supposed to tell him? He clearly had a camera and she knew she was being recorded …
