AI is definitely one of those things that are fun to imagine in 50 years time but implementing it in reality is crazy. I'm at a pretty high risk of my job becoming obsolete with AI in the next few years, or at least super competitive as it'll only take one person to "manage" AI tech for a particular role rather than a whole team. I'm quite nervous but keeping my cool and trying to integrate AI in my job. 

It's gonna be a ride to see how we transition to a post AI-revolution economy. I think we'll reach UBI at some point but it'll take a lot of pushback and public discontent, especially when unemployment starts to climb rapidly. 

I'm curious if trade careers like plumbing, hair/beauty, and construction will become better paid and if that causes costs for their services to climb as well. Though I suspect AI and robotics will start to solve those problems.

I don't know about where u live but where I am construction or any skilled trade related to it like plumbing, electrician, dry walling, framing etc are like the highest paying jobs excluding high end business or white collar jobs (ex: successful lawyer, doctor, board room business executive etc)

 

They are all paying like $40h to $50/h and in some cases if ur experienced even more

 

But they come with hard physical labor and annoying commutes most of the time (and Toronto area is gridlocked af) so I decided not to pursue a career like that despite the money

It's sad, we have AI creating photos, art, stories, music and learning content (pretty much all the stuff that was unique human and, at least for me, is real fun) and yet here we are, still dealing with incurable illnesses, traffic overkill in cities, no real solutions for climate crisis and mundane stuff like cleaning toilets, windows or streets.

Yeah I'm completely for AI when it comes to those kinds of things but I really hate it in creative fields. You've got animators and artists depressed and loosing work, corporations like Levi hiring AI models to fill their diversity quota instead of hiring actual people or buzzfeed firing staff to replace them with AI.  It's pretty bad but If it weren't for the threat of copyright infringement due to how the models were made it'd be so much worse.

People are not getting the point AT ALL as to why we want AI development to slow down for now. It all comes down to all countries not having any law regarding the AI implementation and usage.

Artists are losing jobs because of art made by AI. Copyright infringement, stealing of someone's art and capitalizing off of it. Academe and many teachers having issues with ChatGPT because of the unrestricted use by students which allowed them to commit academic dishonesty. 

These are all legal and ethical issues that should be discussed first by our leaders before even actually implementing AI in aspects of our everyday lives. This isn't just about Elon Musk (like literally just ignore his name and try to understand why people are against AI). We need laws that educates us about AI and laws that addresses ethical concerns about its usage.

Ok, as someone who has a vested interested in AI (long before it became popularized like it is today) and as someone who's about to start their graduate studies specializing in intelligent computer systems, I have many thoughts about the conversation surrounding AI today.

Firstly, anyone who says "we need to ban AI!" seriously does not understand what they're talking about. AI comes in many different forms and it's been around longer than you might think. AI, and by extension machine learning, has been used for decades. Voice assistants (Siri, Alexa, Cortana, etc.), navigation apps, spell check, "smart" home devices, online retail stores like Amazon, etc. all use AI and other similar techniques. We cannot "ban" AI for the simple fact that it's already integrated in so many things. 

What we need to do is update laws and regulations to keep up with the advancement of AI. Stealing other artists' work should not be how AI is used. Similarly, using tools like ChatGPT to write essays for school also shouldn't be how we're using these technologies. We need AI scientists and researchers to work with politicians to come up with laws that either limit or regulate the use of AI in certain areas.

I also hope that we move past "tech bros" becoming the face of AI. Not all of us are like them, I swear

I agree it's very scary when you start thinking of how it can affect the future. Eventually we can't tell the difference between what's real and what's not real
