ive come to realize that she would be more palatable if she put her personal and political opinions as well as her disdain for white ppl into her music the way her male counterparts do (which they are celebrated and awarded for)

but she would rather make fun dance music and say her opinions to your face! shes not here to be palatable or here to make money for white people! which some of yall just cannot stand!!

Yes, let's just ignore bigots, they can't do any harm if we ignore them instead of fighting them, right??

her occasional transphobic remarks have been particularly jarring – many of which she has apologized for. Neither she, nor her fans, are unaware of these missteps.

Is that so? is this really the truth?:max:

Not them trying to pass her being a terrible person as « shade »……

Also not sure what’s warranting a whole cover story here.

I kind of hate the way they seem to be tiptoeing around her controversies and downplaying them. It would've been a far more interesting article if they didn't adopt that tone. It's like the writer is an apologetic fan - there's nothing interesting about that.

They don't even know what they're talking about. I've met Azealia, I've met her transgender brother, I've met fabulous trans girls in the audience at her shows in NY. Azealia and her art and her audience are queer AF. We just tryna have a good time. :anveeroy:

Yep… the difference is apparent between people who know Azealia and where she comes from vs being chronically online and keyboard warriors taking everything she says deadly seriously. There’s no arguing with those people because they don’t get it. But if you’re gonna imply I’m trash, then I’ll speak up. :)

You know, I agree with this. Her songs themselves aren’t really controversial at all. They’re flexing and quite clever but not really conceptually painting landscapes. But if she had it in the material and was a man she would probably have been taken under Kanye’s wing sooner

I'd say I would always give her a chance to redeem herself because she's such an extremely talented musician (emphasis on musician) that it would be a tremendous loss for music culture to not offer a space for her but she's been such a tragically transphobic and overall problematic person over all these years without any signs of showing remorse that it's rather improbable that is ever going to happen

Is talking about Azealia Banks going to be prohibited from now on? Like Jk Rowling?

No one has prohibited conversations. It's the arguing that we prohibit.
