With all the praise that the HMH performance is getting, what pissing me off is that some GP that preaching how she's wonderful without the costumes and the weirdness and what makes Gaga, Gaga.

I don't need their praise when they still can't accept her for who she is, can't accept that her voice is amazingly the same, with or without the weirdness and the costumes.

It's actually an insult to her artistry.

rant over, I just want them to finally appreciate her for who she is.

excuse me, but didn't Gaga herself say she doesn't need to hide behind the costumes anymore when the Artopop era started, and she tried going for the more simple natural look in a few events, but then this didn't make waves in the media and she went back to full on crazy costumes?

Does anyone have the original quote? I think it may have been at some red carpet event when she came in a simple brown wig and black dress.

The comments that kill me are the people saying that they didn't realize she was talented until ASIB + her more stripped back material. Like, girl...she's been serving phenomenal vocals and performances since 2008. If you can't recognize that because you're too distracted by what she was wearing, idk what to tell you.

What I'm saying is: she literally said she wasn't hiding, so their opinion would be completely inconsistent with her intention. They're entitled to whatever opinion they have, I just don't agree with it and I certainly don't think it's reinforced by the bulk of what she's said.

I truly don't remember her saying that in the ARTPOP era. The most I can remember is her saying she would dress "crazier" if she was feeling worse, but that's about it. Also: the quote you're citing is almost 10 years old, whereas the one I cited is from last year.

I remember her using the exact phrase "not hiding behind the costumes" when she introduced a simpler look, but I can't remember the exact interview. She did so many at that time.

Honestly tbh I’m so used to this being the Gaga normal ever since cheek to cheek and the journey into acting that it doesn’t even seem like something to comment on?? 
 

crazyga is honestly the minority of her career at this point which is kinda sad now that I think on it

i honestly think at this point for the most part even people that prefer this side of gaga respect that she can do it all. i feel like now when she’s more GAGA they’re more like “this type of thing isn’t for me but man can she sing.” i think she’s reached a level of respect that even when people may not be 100% onboard they just respect how she’s always doing what you least expect her to do (as last night showed). 

i think watching reaction videos for her super bowl (both from home and from inside the stadium) are a great example of this. even straight people by the end are like holy crap

also if this is her last really high profile performance before joker, it will make her transformation back into “crazy gaga” seem like even more of a transformation. i almost wonder if she wanted to be as normal as possible so when the trailer comes out next year the character seems like as much of a stretch (from who she actually is) as possible. we all know people love to say she’s playing herself whether she’s playing a vampire or playing ally

It's kind of like Bowie's glam era. It's one of the most iconic parts of his career, but he was only in full Ziggy/Aladdin Sane regalia for a few years in the 70s.
