RochestrMonstr 3,239
The BORN THIS WAY era! People don’t seem to remember it. She was still successful but SO many people hated her. ARTPOP’s “over” was mainly by other fanbases. She was a rather neutral figure in the public eye that era, but dragged on Pop Culture Sites to hell (who’s faves album also underperformed compared to her previous one, but it did better than ARTPOP so they used that) Edit: In the BTW era people wanted her to Go Away because she was everywhere. Really, it was her first single that didn’t have organic growth on the charts. It could have debuted higher, but it leaked on a weird day of the week forcing her team to release it early, so its first week sales were between two weeks. I remember hearing that it was blacklisted on radio because radio hosts were scared of pissing off Christians. This is why it didn't do well I think. he/him/his

I hesitate to say it on here, because trolls, but it was interesting because I followed that person (not going to name them, because of the previously mentioned possible trolls) back in the day before Gaga performed and he was often very snotty & passive aggressive about women despite supposedly being progressive. I was actually about to unfollow him before Gaga's performance. He was and is absolutely entitled to dislike Gaga, but it didn't surprise me he reacted that way and I suspect he reacted so publicly because of how he feels about certain type of women (mainstream actresses and singers). It reminded me of that artist who slammed Taylor Swift for not writing (lol, say what you want about Taylor, but she writes) and praised Billie for writing and it definitely came off like he made that judgment due to 'vibes'. It's also interesting, because I see him pop up still, and he seems to have definitely changed his tone on twitter now that he's more famous for his work. I feel like someone (PR) told him to cut out the passive aggressive sh*t targeted towards women.

In ARTPOP era people were more like “oh yeah, her” Agree. A lot of controversies were just twitter moments, but genuine ones that crossed over into the mainstream were BTW and ARTPOP. BTW because of Madonna and the religious backlash, which made the Alejandro thing seem tame, and also due to her being over-exposed at the time. ARTPOP was mostly due to people just being over her to the point they didn't even sum up much energy to hate her....and the SWINE performance had a lot of haters (sadly, not many people cared about R Kelly). The Surviving R Kelly thing hurt her, because people seemed to focus mostly on her and Nicki and not Kendrick and the million other people who had still worked with him (some later than Gaga). BTW, not excusing Gag for working with R Kelly (which was horrific imo), but it was f*cked up the media/twt made it all about Nicki and Gaga when there were people who had done a lot with him later than those two.
