StrawberryBlond 14,692
Wow, this press release shocked me, I had no idea he was going through this. Artists usually promise big things about an album being their best ever but it sounds like he really means it when he says that this is going to be him being an honest songwriter and stripping it all back. It's good that he admits that he's just been making music for the masses all this time, that self-awareness is crucial to creating better art. And he's been through some stuff that could produce genuinely amazing music, I've never been so intrigued to listen to an Ed Sheeran album until now but I think I am. I also want to say that I like how many songs he names after places in his work (Tenerife Sea, New York, Galway Girl, Barcelona, Take Me Back To London, Peru) and now he has a song called The Hills Of Aberfeldy which is cool to think he's named a song after an area in my country that I've been to! It just instantly connects you to a song when you see that. I also notice that while the names of his albums may seem basic to many, they're all super relevant when you think about it. + is his debut, when he was breaking out onto the scene, so he's an addition to the music industry. Then he released x, which is when his success really took off and was doubled. Then he made ÷, an album that literally divided listeners and critics alike with vast swathes of the public loving it but the critics calling it too generic. Then he made =, which is all about him marrying his wife and how happy he is with her, so they are standing beside each other as equals in life. Now, he's about to release -, a stripped-back acoustic album that pares back all the happiness and focuses on the sad emotions. Best plan in history, law of attraction or both? Whatever the case, he's onto something.
