Why do I feel like someone in her team said this to her as an excuse when in reality the magazine just didn’t want her because it wouldn’t shift copies :triggered:

Right?

unless it was a teen oriented magazine I don’t see how that would be the excuse

As a 41-year-old woman, I'm triggered. Who cares what magazine it is. Even if it was Babies Monthly it would still be ageism.

Seriously though, society needs to stop acting like women are "too old" after 30. Our obsession with youth is frankly unhealthy and hurtful.

and it's obviously incredibly misogynistic. Men over 30 are put on Sexiest Man Alive Covers without any hesitation and no one questions it. But women are only "worthy" to be put on these lists and covers when they either have a certain power or status that must be extra special or if they are conforming an incredibly unrealistic beauty standard... it's completely wild

clearly a lot of people in this thread are showing their genders and are not cis women. i really don’t like how everyone is talking about what is like to be a woman close to 30 (like me) or over 30 (ellie)

. It's unsettling that they've pushed back that age barrier even further to age 30.

Well that's assuming it was the same magazine tho. We don't know which one it is

What is it, Seventeen? Teen Vogue? Cosmopolitan? Smash Hits? Top of The Pop? What? :oprah:

Gaga has been over 30 for years and still lands lots of covers. It sounds like an excuse by the magazine, but a crappy one.

I don't think that proves anything

Just like a super wealthy or famous person may not experience the downfalls of racism to the same degree as regular people...

An ultra successful woman like Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Adele etc are not going to face ageism to the same degree either (not saying they don't at all)

A magazine may still consider women like this when they are 60 but it doesn't mean they will accept older women as a whole

I guess I don’t think Ellie Goulding is a regular person. But I maintain that it’s a crappy excuse by the magazine, and the Gaga example is relevant, because I don’t believe the magazine really excluded Ellie because she’s over 30. I think they excluded her because she isn’t as appealing to their audience. I bet they would put Gaga or another but star over the age of 30 on their cover.

Nah Ellie Goulding is not a regular person but she's not an A list celebrity

I feel like for the Elites in music or movie industry the bars are set at slightly different levels lol. Like if they usually don't accept women over 30 as a general rule, they may not be quite as strict for ultra famous celebs cuz they shift more sales. That's what I meant. The names I listed aren't regular celebrities, they are like the top of the top.

But I do agree that without more details or the magazine it's hard to he absolutely certain of all the dynamics at play in this decision. I was merely saying if they accepted Gaga that wouldn't automatically prove ageism wasn't a factor for Ellie
