Translation: Means they think they are capable enough to work 15 hours straight and be proud of it because they are gen Z and independent but also indecisive enough that they can be the complete opposite and need breaks every 10 minutes because the world owes them

Nonsense, got it.

We have forgotten our public MANNERS

Most of you in this thread have never been on a movie set, and it shows. Extras being treated poorly isn’t unheard of, and if they’ve reported issues to the SAG, it shouldn’t be disregarded or laughed at.

My sister worked as an extra on a film the summer before last, and she just said everyone knew to not like, be chugging a whole bottle of water right before filming. They got breaks after they completed the scene and were well taken care of with salad, pizza, cookies, energy bars, and drinks etc. Honestly, from what she described, this lines up with the every 2 hours these people are saying (and the movie she worked on was happening in the dead of summer). No one really wanted to mess up the movie, and it didn't seem like anyone was unhappy. IDK, seems no worse than going to school.

Regardless of the veracity of this article,

Peeing is not a voluntary action - you cannot not pee on will. Failure to regard something uncontrollable as such is a precondition of mistreatment and ignorance - people do pee, and notwithstanding of how sophisticated, high status, or big the set is, when one has to pee, then he must be allowed to do so (reason - the categorical imperative).

Nonetheless, I'd resign if I was the extra and if I am not allowed to pee whenever my body compels me.

(Imagine arguing about peeing :huntyga:)

You cant hold it for two hours? I'd go to have that checked :deadbanana: I found extremely hard to believe that many of those extras cant hold it for two hours.

This actually because something could be wrong if frequent bathroom usage is a problem. I mean when you gotta go, you gotta go, it happens, but typically those are actual signs of an infection or worse

I never thought I would have discussion about this topic here :ladyhaha: but as someone who's in the medical field, I have to say peeing IS a voluntary action. Healthy adults should be able to control that process (to pee on will as you say or delay it), if not then there is some underlying medical condition causing that.

What people need to realize is that extras are never on a film set for one continuous amount of time, they mostly have to wait in between setups and only have to be on set when lights and cameras are ready. So they could be expected to remain on set for as long as necessary for the shot to be completed, and the next break would naturally come for them with the next setup. But if a shot takes a while and at some point, a couple extras need some water or a bathroom break, it's simply inhumane to deny them.

What I'm trying to make you realize is there's no such rule as a 2 hour work limit, it really depends. Some shots take longer to be completed than others. After a few hours, it's perfectly natural for basic biological needs to start kicking in. And if people start actually filing complaints, it means it somehow went too far. People aren't robots, I'm pretty sure Joaquin Phoenix and Gaga are allowed all the bathroom breaks they need - tho they most likely don't nearly have to spend as much time on set as extras because they'll have body doubles in place for setups.

But thank God, things usually happen in good conditions, as your sister's experience shows.

Unfortunately, most people need the job and they don't have the luxury of resigning, and productions know it.

Naturally its voluntary at certain levels :laughga: , but there's a point where one cannot hold it, thus, making it "involuntary" or "uncontrollable" - sooner or later you must let it out.

Suppose they're at the verge, faced with opposing authority figures, can we blame them for revolting?

Yeah I do understand that, its just sad that because productions know that some may badly need it, they think that warrants them any bad treatment

Yes, but healthy adults' urinary bladder should be able to hold the urine for a long long time, for hours, definetly more than 2 hours. That's not very comfortable for sure, but Idk if that's such a big deal as they are making it.

Well, it's TMZ :lolga:

Nonetheless, IFF (if and only if) its continued discomfort, it should definitely a "big deal"

2hrs? Really? Go use the restroom before arriving to set. You think others are allowed to leave mid shift just because they didn't take care of themselves before?

Schwerk

Usually you check this stuff before you start.

If I knew I had to be in a complicated movie shot that could take up to 2 hours to setup, it'd make sure to pee and eat beforehand. It's just being prepared for the job.

If I'm front row at Gaga I go 6 hours without going to pee.

Sure, if you gotta go, you gotta go, it's dangerous to hold it in. And I find it normal they quiz you before you're allowed to take the break because people in groups always take advantage of a situation, I've noticed that in schools so often. The rhetoric of "If he's allowed to go pee then I should be as well, even though I don't really need to that badly."

Doesn't mean extra's should be abused, but is a tough job and you usually know what you sign up for.

According to Gaga I'm a ****ing rad bitch
