I'm a little confused. Did he used to go out of his way to say that he's a black actor?

Idk… you just get labeled one by others, just like we call Shawn Mendes a gay actor :gaysia:

This goes against the leading diversity, equity, and inclusion work done to support minority communities. Imo it is important to name and recognize our labels in society so we can be aware of our privileges and barriers we face in the world.

Except it doesn’t. If equality is what we seek in the future then we must do exactly that, level out the planes and move forward that way. You don’t tilt the scale in the other direction so it becomes a potential problem in the future. Labels do not express the personal experiences of people, we are INDIVIDUALS and we share different experiences. It’s actually discriminatory to think of people as JUST labels and assume their experience in life must be a certain way because of reason x,y,z. Generalizations can only go so far in modern day society, at some point you are faced with individual situations. We are not all the same, we do not all face the same privileges & hardships in life regardless of the fact that from a small minded perspective, we fall under one of those labels. Your way of thinking continues to perpetuate division and not unity imo.

What I mean is does he say "I'm a black actor" or is it something others have just labeled him as? It'd be interesting it's a narrative he's pushed and then decided to drop. Because to me it sounds like a PR stunt that didn't work out. But if it's something others have just called him, that's understandable and an issue that applies across all workplaces.
